Feral jaguars

Now I wish I had never commented. They were beautiful fish but then again, I'd probably swap a pair of parachromis for some festae as well.
Btw, I live in NYC and I have some festae.... from Singapore! The irony.
There's supposedly an established feral population of festae in Singapore. Look it up.

The feral "festae" here are mayans, ex-Cichlasoma urophthalmus. Trust me, I live here lol.

I hope you meant "from Singapore" as in bred in Singapore and not caught in Singapore, because if it is the latter then they would not be festae at all. There are no feral festae here, only urophthalmus. Festae are one of the least commonly seen cichlids in the hobby here.

Great catch! Those were very nice Jags you sold! Wat did you catch them on? Worms? I'd rather go with festae too, but I hope you have a bigger tank for them than your 52g? GL

I'll take your word for it. I'm sure the ones I have were farmed in Singapore for the ornamental fish market. I was lucky enough to have been browsing the Lfs when the shipment arrived. There were also carpintis, green terrors and a few others. Nice fish.

That's strange. Here only one or two specialist stores stock festae, and from what they tell me they are always imported from the USA or less commonly Taiwan. I have never heard of fish farms here producing festae. Carpintis and green terrors and other common species yes, but festae are certainly not considered anywhere near common over here. I am waiting on one of my LFS to bring in some F0 festae from the US next week.

Strange. Here i was thinking that Singapore had every fish available...

Are the cichlids you mention, Gavin, also rare in other asian countries, such as China , Thailand, etc?

Allways learning. Never saw so many interesting fish in the same place as in Hong Kong and was tod Singapore was even better...

In terms of "monster fish" (i.e., large, predatory fish) we have a huge selection. Tiger fish, datnoids, incredibly rare big Amazonian catfish, all sorts of characins and Hoplias sp., all common, all easy to get. The problem with cichlids in Singapore is just that there is no demand.

I understand. Its purely thr workings of the market.

Singapore Market is too small and the CA hobbyist are even smaller. Most of the fishes on the stock list you see might be imported for export only.

There are no festae in Singapore waterway, but full of mayan. I can easily fish over 20 pcs within a hour. Some specimens I caught had very stunning color.
