only asked because i have seen some with just a little bit of a longer and pointier dorsel than mine. maybee when thier fully mature.
 
makes sense , mine does look like yours when pissed off but turns almost a bright deep orange with the stripes jet black.

neither of those two characteristics are ways to tell the sex of festae...different locales & different strains of the species look completely different than one another and the heads are different looking. Look at the festae strain in Australia. It looks different than those currently being sold in the trade.

Color can differ according to stress level, tankmates, food, spawning or not, genetics & more. The male above is 4 inches and look at its color.

That's a beautiful fish. Mine is only four inches, but if he (I'm almost 100 percent sure it's male) looks that nice most days, I'll be pleased. I've noticed with festaes their colors can really fluctuate.
 
i doubt your male will look like that most days. that male is in breeding colors at the time of the photo.
 
Its not mine, Its a friends. Usually they fluctuate between that and solid gold with red fins and a combo of the 2 when not spawning, if they are a pair. Mine have anyways.

@ 7" the Festae should already have elongated tips on the dorsal and anal fins both male and female. If they aren't present the tankmates may be suspect.
