filter build for 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
nice to see someone 'keeping it simple' while going BIG, looks great, just make sure you get nice even water flow through all areas of the crating.

Your design looks great ! need more bio add a few trays, have to seed a new filter swap a tray or two.

I think you'd enjoy the sewn together 200/100 micron socks. Straight 100 will plug pretty fast.

Not sure if you're planning it or not but a huge drain in the bottom would be wise. 2" should work with a ball valve on it. This will get rid of the sludge that quickly acumulates on the bottom.

Would also throw at least 1 plugged bulkhead in the bottom allowing for future filter expansion (UV or bio reactor). Also need a drain at water level for the drip.

Bottom drain is an excellent idea, wish I had added one to my sumps as I have to siphon out now. I will add one to my next sump.

Also exactly why I went with the stock tanks just for that fantastic drain feature and at about $100 you can't beat the durability of it. I have been using the 100 micron socks for over 5 years and love them yes they clog up fairly fast but I would rather have it filtering out of the tank than staying in just IMO. I have 2 100 socks on my 600 gallons system and I have to change them out every week but with them being washable I'll take it.

Drip tray is finished, though I believe I will run a bead of silicone around the inside corners. My first attempt at acrylic work and I'm not trusting my joints all that much. Especially since I didn't use true acrylic cement, I skimped and used clear pvc pipe joint cleaner as I had read that would work as well and had it on the shelf.

Make sure you use tank sealant silicone as the others have anti bac that can kill rays. Generally it doesn't stick to acrylic so key up the surface. I think you would be better off suing the proper glue or trust it as is. I suspect it will be fine, why not remove a tray for a trial run so any failing will be contained in then sump.
