Just bought a house, love it but there's no place in the living room for a big tank, so decided going to do a nice 75 gallon show tank and then keep bigger tanks in the basement where I can setup DIY sumps.

This tank is going to be in the living room, going to do an overstocked African Tropheus tank (20-24 adults) so I need it to be powerful, but can't be over the top where it's blowing away the stock. Also since it's more of a show tank having the ability to use the Hydor In Line heaters is a plus (as I want as little equipment showing as possible). Noise is also a factor, would like to keep it as silent as possible.

Price range would like to stay around $200 and it has to be available via Amazon Prime (I live out in the corn fields, shipping KILLS me if I don't go Prime). I'm not opposed to going with something like an FX6 if this is truly the route to go and will have to show off the heater.

So with those conditions in mind, what's the best route to go here?

I have been very pleased with my SunSun so far. I would recommend the SunSun 404B for a 75. It will keep up easy and is very quiet. It also has a built in UV steralizer, which is a plus in my book. Best part is, they can be had for under $100 on Amazon.

I'm not familiar with US currency or Amazon prime, but when I think silent I think Eheim. The Classic series are nearly dead silent and much cheaper (and probably more effective) than the Pro series.

My suggestion would be a Eheim 2217, although I'm not sure if it could handle an overstocked rift lake tank without some additional mechanical filtration.

Yea sounds like a cannister might be your best bet. Haven't done it myself but pretty sure You can use an inline heater on the cannister lines.

Your going to need double filtration for that tank. So with that price. I would go with 2 sunsun canisters. Rena XP's are very nice as well, but you can probably only get one with that price range.

I would sump it with that many fish.
Lots of filter socks, drilled bottom, 500 Gph submersible return pump. Algae scrubber in sump.

I have 2 sunsun canisters. I think 1 is an aquatop but there is really no difference. The primer on the older one became very hard to push down and it makes a scratching sound and feels rough when pushed down. I am not currently using either canister. I have also found them hard to clean.

Aquatop is just a rebrand for the USA market, so you're getting the same exact product.....with a much higher price tag.
There's really no need to use the primer button if you fill the canister nearly full first with water, before reattaching the head unit, and there's already water in the hoses. So, the only time you need to prime is for the initial setup, or if you manage to lose water in the hoses.
These Sunsun/Aquatop canisters are no harder to clean than any other canister filters sold on the market today. They're much less of a pita than canisters that utilizes sponges such as FX and Odysseas

The sunsun canisters do have these filter pads in the tray that are hard to clean. Maybe I will set them up again once I get my 55 going again because I was using crappy top fin power filters.
