Filter water agitation avoiding and air stone

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Anyway, he will get used with the noises for first few days, after that he won't even notice the filter running while he trying to sleep :p

Hello; This is usually the case. I like the sound of the bubbles in the water from an air pump but do not like the buzz of the pump. I have tried several things and have found two that often work.
The best is to place the pump in another room and run a long air line. I have my air pump in my basement with the air line coming up thru a hole on the floor. The hole was already there for a TV cable. Maybe a closet or the brothers room??

The other that can work is to hang the pump so it is not touching anything. Still can be a little buzz but not so bad. I have tried several methods to hang a pump. Rubber bands work well until they break after a while. Be sure the pump is not hung directly over the water.

I have tried wrapping a pump with moderate levels of success. If it is wrapped keep in mind that it needs air flow and can get too hot.

Good luck

Pumps also have noise isolating feet which help but you still get vibrations and if it's on a shelf it turns the whole shelf into a speaker. If you set it on a surface that's very hard like concrete that will help immensely

I found the emperors to be the most reliable once you get a good one, but the water on the bio wheels drove me batty in my bedroom. The aquaclears would be quiet for a week or two, then they would start growling enough where I could hear them two rooms away. I honestly haven't run a hob filter in years and would not buy one personally.
The cost of running a hob for a year will more than justify the upfront cost of a good canister filter.
If you insist on running a hob the eheim liberty series is built pretty well. If your local pet smart has any of the hob National Geographic's left they are relabeled eheims

I'll add this in i have used just about every brand of filter out there and honestly I am switching everything over to eheim. They just seem to last longer. The only downside is finding parts when you do need them.
