Filtration for a 100 gallon tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also think you should run 2 filters on the 100.eheims are great, but you can get great deals online for other brands that work well.biowheel, fluval c4...maybe downsize to ac70 or c4, then add a canister

I'd do Eheim, Rena, Fluval. More than one filter is a big plus....even if it's just a sponge...if one fails it's a major bummer by itself.

if you can look at them ,sponge filters on a powerhead would work nicely.....and no more hob when its seeded fully....

Hey guys, sorry, I had a rough past couple days and forgot to respond to this.
Let me elaborate a bit...I don't want to keep the AC110 for a couple of reasons. One, if the tank is anything less than 99% full, the filter makes noise when the water it's putting out spashes the surface. Normally I don't mind that, but this tank is in my room, and it really irritates me at night when I'm trying to sleep.
Two, the only place that this filter is able to hang on the tank (without having the intake be in a horribly obvious place) is right by a power outlet. That makes me nervous.

Also, whoever suggest sponge filter/sponge on a power head...Not a big fan of sponge filters because I don't like the look of bubbles in my tank, and I really don't want to have a sponge on a powerhead because it's just so ugly..This tank is in my room, so I want it to be as pretty as possible!

I plan on making this tank moderately to heavily planted. I have a powerhead aimed at the plants, so even if the canister did fail, chances of that doing any harm are minimal. Water circulation via the powerhead through lots of plants would keep the fishies just fine until I could get the AC110 back on there.

I would really like to do just a single canister filter(+the powerhead for circulation). I'll still keep the AC110 in case something happens and I need it to use it temporarily.
