Finally a drip system!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thx DB. Soooo pretty much activated carbon will filter the chlorine and chloramine out of my tap water at a low flow rate, like 2-3gallons per hour? I read that on filterguys.com. I want to try this, but i hate putting my rays at risk too..... Any help alan on a good filter you suggest?

That is why I double up on filters. I first planned on 3 but figured 2 is plenty enough.

sooo Mike... Your tap has chloramines in it as well? Im thinking a 3gph drip, and if the carbon works for ur chloramine then thats what ill do... is there a specific typ of activated carbon? or would black diamond activated carbon from marineland work... just wanna MAKE sure im not hurting my rays

Check out the DIY section.... I think there's several members using filter guys filters to remove cloramine. No, I wouldn't trust normal carbon to remove it. I was told by my water dept that it hasn't been used in over 22 years and no plans of it in the near future, so I have no experience with chloramine. IF I did have it, I'd use what's been mentioned.

right i just researched it more, and it says pentak carbon is VERY good at removing chloramine and chlorine. can get it at sears, so with 2 filter towers running 3gph, i should be JUST fine running a drip system. Im gonna do a bit more research, but i think its gonna work. thanks DB and Fishdog for the help

I have chlorine not chloramine so you will need different filters then I have. You want to use carbon water filters made for the filter housings not carbon you buy for aquarium filters. I have a feeling you already figured that out though. Let me or Alan know if you have anymore questions. Alan has alot more experience at this than I do.

LOL... Trev trumps me.... I think you're gonna have to hit up some of the fellows like Pharaoh over in the DIY section to find someone dealing with chloramine though.

VLDesign is also workin on a drip type system for his tank... He's got chloramines to deal with. Think he was toying with going a different route. Would definetly be worth lookin into.

In the UK we buy from Devotedly Discus and his HMA (Heavy Metal Axe) will deal with Chloramines but ONLY if you use the HMA C. He does sell double carbon cannisters but these do not remove the Chloramine, I think that it has to be a different sort of high pressure membrane to remove the Chloramine.

THIS BIT IS IMPORTANT: If you slow the flow through drip system cartridges of the type this thread talks about by turning down a tap BEFORE the filter then the pressure drops and the membranes will not properly remove the chlorine and chloramines, you have to have high pressure and this is done using a capilliary flow restrictor on the out bound side or at the very least reducing the pressure that end. The capilliary restrictors are a simple device that cost a few pounds to add in to the line.
