Thanks Ben.

I will try it keep everyone updated as to how it goes.... but I am guessing that they have to be around the 7 - 8 inch range before they will start to pair up.. so not a lot of excitement for a while - atleast I hope not :)
Based on my estimation, they will achive the 7-8 range by a year. Just powerfeed the guys.

what are you power feeding them? bloodworms, brine shrimp, trout worms?

i am curious

These little guys are so cool.
They don't hide!!! Lots of caves and they check them out but they seem to be so nosey that they just have to explore.... I could watch them for hours. One of them insists on 'sleeping' in the plant - about half way up... just wedges himself between the leaves of a plastic plant and sleeps. At least 8 hiding places in the tank and he sleeps midtank under the lights....

They will freely eat from my hand as long as they get close enough to realize the food is there. Problem is that is starts to thaw and sinks to the bottom so they just eat there. I am feeding frozen bloodworm right now - I will pick up some other varieties over the weekend for the little piggies.

I have been keeping the tank lights on in the day and they don't seem to mind it at all. I have spoiled my big boy - I rarely ever turn the lights on and I even block any bright light when I feed him... I know - It is me that has the problem.. but he is beautiful and strong and healthy.... so it can't be all bad. I do want these new Ghosties to be different and it looks like they are definately on thier way.

I removed the tank divider as the only one being restrained was the Gourami and the Lil Ghosties were driving him crazy slipping back and forth. I fixed 3 different spots... they kept finding more so I gave up and removed the divider. They still bug the Gourami but atleast he has more room to get away from them. He has not tried to chase them at all... in fact he acts like his a bit afraid of them. Hopefully he will have a new home by the weekend.

BTW: I found a great way to verify that little Ghosts are eating... just look at them from the tail to the head.. these little guys are slim and sleek... until you get to the little round tummy... I am feeding twice a day - just small feedings but I found out that they also like the flake that I put in for the Gourami. So far they have devoured anything offered... let's hope it stays this way.

Nice group of BGK's you have there. Are they hard to find where you are?

I have not seen them in my LFS for over a year now. I have gotten to know a few people there and they usually give me good info about how long the fish have been there and if they saw any health issues with them so I don't usually go to other stores.

Over the weekend my son and I visited a new store. They had a lighting sale and I needed a new light so it was a great idea. I had to check out the tanks and stock.... and then I saw the ghosts. I watched them for about 15 mins - all active - no missing tails or split fins that I could see. The tank had a few hiding places and they seemed to be very relaxed.

I talked to the attendant about them and apparently they are 'farm bred' and had been in the store for about a week. I watched for a little while longer and the filled out the order form - asking for 4 of them. I handed this to the attendant and he looked at me kind of funny and said - "Do you know how big these get?" I was going to play dumb to see what he said but I was just too happy about finding these little guys. I told him that I was going to "put them in a 20 gal tank as soon as I got home"... and then smiled and said "QT - I have a 45 Gal that should be empty within the next 3 weeks or so.. and then the Ghosties will move into that one." I saw his face drop and then I explained that they will eventually live in a very large tank... I just have to find one first :) but I have to admit... I don't mind the shopping one bit... I love checking out tanks and I will find the right one. Worse come to worse - I have 9 empty tanks in the Garage - not overly large ones but they are there in a pinch.

I am actually thinking about cleaning up a bunch of my smaller tanks and set them up with working filters, heaters, lights, etc. and then put them out for sale to help pay for by big tank (I would like 200+ gal). People keep giving me small tanks.... I may as well find a use for them.

awsome fish. my LFS rarely gets them and when they do they are usually outrageously overpriced. it seems that you have a good LFS, actually an employee who knows something about fish. i'm used to the classic "that pacu will be fine in a ten gallon, they dont get very big"

also try craigslist.com for the big tank. you can find crazy deals on there, every once in awhile you can find huge tanks for cheap

I have been watching for a tank and I know that one will come along. I keep finding fantastic deals on smaller tanks - and can't seem to resist picking them up - so now I am cleaning them up and getting them ready for sale. Hopefully they will help pay for the bigger tank.

These little ghosties are so entertaining to watch. They are nothing like my first BGK - he hid for the first 2-3 weeks but these guys are everywhere.

They have all claimed their little piece of territory and everyone has their own
cave but they really don't use them much.

One little guy insists on sleeping in the plastic plants - he just wedges himself between the leaves - upside down of course - and snoozes. He is directly under the lights and doesn't seem to mind at all.

One of them is a little larger than the other 3 - not much but a little. He also seems to be the most aggressive. A little chasing - nothing serious, but I also noticed that he chases the same 'ghostie'... even if they come close to the others he seems to know the one he was chasing and stays with him... It only lasts for a min and then they forget about it. I was wondering if perhaps these are males.. hmmm... I guess I have to wait and see.

The biggest problem is in telling them apart. Other than one of them have a bit of a different tail they all almost identical.

I am positive that they are all eating well - the little round tummies say it all. They love bloodworm and flake food. I will be picking up some alternatives this weekend for them.

So far everyone seems happy and thriving.
