I just looked at the pics again. I see the blood but I also noticed that the belly is very round. It could have been constipation or some type of digestive problem.

How is everyone else doing?
They are ok, with occasional chasing.

bump for updates on the little guys?

The 4 little Ghosties are doing just fine.... eating like pigs and growing like weeds :)

Just moved them into a 45 gal with newer and larger hiding places for them. Now I have to start working on getting their next tank...

Still no missing tails or injuries of any kind... so far so good.

Why is it that photos of tanks always show so much more algae, dirt than you can see with the naked eye.. drives me crazy.

Hope you enjoy.

Lookin' good. Thanks for the update. How big are the little guys now?

How are they doing? Sorry I keep on digging this thread up, but I'd like to know how keeping multiple BGKs goes because I'd like to try it someday. Have you gotten them to their new tank yet?

Update:

All 4 are Going (or should I say Growing) Strong!

One little guy is now named "Corky" - he has some sort of spinal problem and has a tail like a cork screw. It keeps getting worse but he is eating and swimming fine so far. I have moved him away from the other Ghosties... he was too easy to pick on. He now lives with two neurotic Angels, 4 upside down cats, and one the cutest Golden Bristle Nosed Pleco's I have ever seen.
The pleco was a very recent addition - he eats at least his weight in algae every day ... what a fantasic little guy. He ate so much the first day he looked more green than golden :)

The other 3 Ghosties are in a 45 Gal. There have been some changes over the last week...

Two of them are getting fairly large - at least 5 inches and filling out. They were used to diving in and out of the windows of a pagota in the tank. Well - one day last week .... they no longer fit !!! Here he was trying his best to get into the window before 'PeaWee' caught up to him.... and no matter how hard he tried he could not get through... had something to do with the size of the round belly.

Note: "He" and "She" is used because that is the way I see them at this point... not because I know for sure).

PeaWee is by far the smallest in size but the largest in attitude/agression. She rules the tank. If she decides that she wants to take someone else's cave... she does and they live with it. She is contantly chasing the 'boys' (larger two). One just avoids her now but the other seems to actually enjoy being chased - atleast some times.

So last week the tank was rearranged. The Pagota was laid on it's side so that it is more of a cave. One of the castles was also put on it's side so that the Ghosties can hide in the hollow legs. They really prefer to sleep vertically... just hanging in the water. I rarely see this bunch lay down. If they do it is usually 'in the trees' - really it is in the plants but I call them my little 'tree huggers'.

At times it is more like a dance or a game then a chase. They go around the tank but sometimes is it with the head towards the top of the tank and tail towards the substrate and just let the water flow carry they around - like they were kites blowing in the wind. I think of it a two kids playing in a meadow.

This could be a prelude to pairing up... or it could be nothing - I will have to wait and see.

I have learned a couple of lessons:

1. Any sunlight from a window - is too much - Algae is a monster.
2. Plants have snails.... snails eat algae... I should be OK..... but then....
3. Ghosties and Upside Down Cats LOVE SNAILS. The ones who came with the plants just had to get big enough.... and then over the course of about 2 days were totally wiped out.
4. Bigger snails should be able to eat more Algae - bought two yellow mystery snails - fairly large.
5. Big party in the tank after lights off.... One snail lost on the first night but no real signs of damage that I could see.
6. Second snail was attacked the next day - by the time I saw it 'Corky' was just finishing up - and he looked like he really enjoyed his meal. I really thought that a bigger snail would not be considered a meal... boy was I wrong.

7. As long as they each have their own 'cave' and no one tries to interfere with it - then all is peaceful. But if someone comes too close to a cave then they need to be warned - or chased - or maybe just twitched at... it all depends.

I am looking for a bigger tank but have not found one just yet. I have lots of smaller tanks ... 40 gal's... so I can separate them if I need to but I would really like them to stay together... my guess is that the hardest part in breeding them is introducing them to each other. Territory issues and such....

I have LOTS of photos and even a small video - all on my laptop - which I do not have at the moment. I will try to post them soon.

Sounds interesting a BGK community. Mine is 12" and will chase anyone who trys to get near his driftwood. I will be adding a fire eel to fis tank soon, hoping for the best.

Good luck with your community, I am looking forward to the updates.
