should i be looking for a new home for my pleco too then?

Yes, ditch the pleco.

In a 56 gallon, I'd probably get 3 sens and a delhezi. Maybe go for 3 albino sens, I think regular sens are a little bit dull colored.

Make sure it's a retro and not a palmas polli... Fish/pet stores will usually get in palmas pollis labelled as retropinnis.

I would get a trio of sens and a delhezi. Or two of each.

according to the sticky though, the retropinnis will reach the same size as a palmas polli, so would it even hurt if i got them mistaken?

my lfs gets multiple senegals in with each order, but they only have 1 ornate and i think 1 retropinnis. the retropinnis might be a bit larger than the senegals i would be getting, should i wait to get it until i have the senegals to avoid them getting eaten by the retro?

ive got a partial bag of sinking shrimp pellets for my cory's, that im going to start with, then should i switch to hikari sinking carnivore, or there are sinking cichlid pellets as well. and these pellets i read can be used as a staple food?

I think the concern is you might end up paying too much for a palmas if it's labelled a retro.

You might be OK with the pleco depending on what kind it is...I have a BN pleco in my tank and it completely ignores all the other fish (it's constantly on the tank walls).

I would think you'd be fine with any combo of 5-6 of the smaller species (senegal, delhezi, palmas, retro)...otherwise really up to you what you get.

r these food choices alright?

should i be worried about size differences for these specimens? or r they not at that size yet? (at my lfs they r between 3 and 6 inches approx.)

That's exactly right.

The food you listed is fine.

Size differences aren't as much of a big deal with upper jaw species as they are with lower jaw species. So IMO, you'll be fine as long as you keep them fed.

i will have to take a few more glances at the visual reference guide b4 i take off to the LFS. will post pics up in the media lounge when i get them. should be within two weeks.

do i need to make any hiding spots for them if im having more than just senegals in the tank? and its alright to go bare-bottomed? i can pick up some gravel if need be. sand would get sucked into my filter.
