(Head out of focus!)

Reintroduced one of the heckelii after he decided he didn't like the Tetra in his new home. Already present male was not too happy with this.

..and as a result.

Half-tank shot with the newly added heckelii separated. Might have to sell the less dominant of the two if I can't get them to sort it out - any tips? I've tried rearranging, separating both the less dominant and dominant of the two (for weeks). Not having much luck.

..and my new project, 5 foot. Rams have been removed to be replaced with L. curviceps when I can find them. There are 7 juvenile Geophagus sp. 'Araguaia Orange Heads' getting around in there.

Wow, the heckelii. Pity the males can't straighten it out, but sounds like you've tried all the normal techniques :(

I'm really tempted to work my 170G to a more dedicated SA setup. My gar is likely going into a pond this spring, patiently waiting for the festivums to get some growth on them so they can go in, they're only 3" or so and my chocolate is part bully, part food hog, so that won't work.

I'm on APF, photos are completely tank lit

Amazing for that! Your pics will rock like thunder when you get the oh flash scene going on for sure.

The less dominant male (who used to be dominant) simply lacks backbone and cowers in the corner. If he swam around and acted normally he would be left alone. Still though, I'm trying separations and reintroductions under different circumstances so hopefully they man up and get along.

While your Chocolate being a bully may be an issue, my Chocolates a monster food hog but the faster more agile fish (Juvenile Leuco's and my smaller Severum) still manage to get a good share of the food by stealing it, and that's without overfeeding at all.

I'd say they'll probably be alright.

chocolates really are mean s.o.b.'s aren't they..?

Not in my experience, although I've seen them mixed with some pretty nasty fish and they can hold their own. Mine is as mellow as can be, they're too plump and slow to really hunt down other Cichlids.

This loisellie has nothing on my chocolate LOL!

I'll admit he's pretty slow but he's just mean in general. From what I've been reading some others also own some pretty nasty chocolates. My chocolate is wild so I wonder if that has anything to do with his aggression towards other fish..? It's sometimes funny to think wow.. I pulled this fish out of the wild and I pulled that fish out of the wild. If it weren't for me these 2 would have never seen each other. No wonder it's hard to find suitable tankmates for fish!
