Finally got my tank going (56K warning)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
awesome, glad you got it figured out! now lets see that algae disappear :)

This week's update: Plants have grown a bunch. No new algae, just the old. I cut off the sword and crypt leaves that had staghorn on them. The large piece of wood is still covered in it, I can't even get it off with a brush. LOL My Co2 has been at the correct color of green all week, PH 6.0 using more bpm than I can count.

the forground plants are engulfed in staghorn algae. The baby tears in front of the rock on the left were melting so I moved them so they could get more light and now they are sprouting some new growth. (immediately to the right of the Blyxa japonica)

man cladophora or blanket weed is an absolute pain! its very hard to get rid of once you get it. but there is a way to kill it.

take some regular hydrogen peroxide and put it in a syringe. squirt the cladophora daily for about 3~4 days. youll immediately start to see it bubble and fizz. once it starts turning brown, it will die. but it will come back in a few weeks.

this is what ive done doing to keep it manageable. i dont really have much any more. its best to kill it while you can to avoid it from spreading.

good luck!

more water changing, please! if you're in Vietnam, my friends will show you plenty of ways to get rid of those thing within 2 weeks! if your substrate is still nutricous, just cut all the infected leaves-as long as the root still stick with the bottom, they'll grow back. moreover, increase temp to 30-31 Celcius degree, and before a regular water change, use a shaver( the thing which I use to shave-sorry I don't know its Engkish name) and shave the algea out of the wood, fingers can help. good luck!

Thanks for the input. I'm back to thinking it's Staghorn again. Here are some links. I'm going to cut or remove all infected leaves and remove the wood to treat with hydrogen peroxide. What ever it is, I'm going to war with!

I change 50 percent of the water weekly. I was changing around 75 percent for the first couple of months, but 3 weeks ago I cut it back when I started dosing with PPS-Pro fertilizer. I don't think I'd want to go above 29C because of certain plants being heat sensitive.

I love this tank o____0 It's so awesome and beautiful

I had a few questions....

What kind of media are you using in your canister?
Did you ever get any otocinclus? I heard you say you were going to get one. From experience i know that if you only get one it will inevitably die, so i would get about 10 or so
