FINALLY: HYDROLYCUS ARMATUS!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats man....he looks good...keep him dim for a few days though....as stress free as can be....keep us updated...

There are no lights on the tank...

I did just notice some sore of parasite. You can see it in the second picture if you click it and blow it up. It is on the bottom side of the fish between the anal and pelvic fins.

What should I use to safely remove the parasite?

looks like a fish louse...common in alot of importers holding tanks...best thing to do is look him over and see if there are any more...take him out and remove it...I have taken them off with my fingers, but tweezers are easier.....be very careful with meds with this fish...I wouldnt use anything other than salt and use that sparingly....the louse will be no problem if removed and not allowed to sit in the tank and reproduce...so remove him carefully to stress the fish as little as possible and put the fish back with some mild salt.

wow it looks great ;)

I would say remove it ASAP since the louse is feeding off of the H. Armatus.

Nice fish!

If he is newly stressed from shipping IMO I would wait, others here might not, BUT having it on your fish for one day will not kill the fish. The added stress of shipping then having it manually removed might be much for your fish.

I once had some on my fish and removed several of them over a period of three days while adding salt and some LIGHT meds to the tank. Removing them manually is very stressful on the fish...

Just my .02
