Finally! I got a Payara:)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine doesnt seem to be eating as much as I would like. Is there a possibility of too much current?

You should have areas in your tank that your fish can get away from the current, especially when they are small. You also might want to test your water conditions because that can make them not want to eat either. It is a very picky fish with water and food.

Already confirmed it is a Hydrolycus tatauaia.

:iagree: Now that it has settled in it's tail is very red. I'll try to get some shots tonight

This guy eats like a beast and was in a tank with fire eels characins, fancy plecos (blue spots and gold nuggets), tire track and fire eels.

From what I understand they wont bother anything that they cant eat.
I know this is an old thread but I am new to the community and wanted to share my experience with my payara...I originally got 10 at about 5" for my 125g but after a few months one individual was outgrowing the others pretty quickly and the next thing I knew he started picking the others off. After about a year he had eaten everyone and tripled his size and is now about 15"+. He has eaten everything I've put in the tank including a giant sleeper goby that was almost as long and much wider, large tire track eel and a few others I was sure he would leave alone. He had that goby hanging out of his mouth for hours tryin to get it down and when I woke up there was no trace of it left. After reading through this site I'm now pretty sure what I have is an Armatus.

Best fish EVER~!
