He might not be big enough yet to impress the female

I have to admit I think the same way...
I will pair the little guy up with a female of his size. The big girl does not show any interest anymore. She sits on her side and he is on his.
So tomorrow I will buy him a female of his size and smaller so he is not on his own against the bad girl.

You can also try sailfin Molly's as dithers as they live with them in the wild. @duanes@duanes has a video of himself swimming with wild JDs.

I believe that male maybe wild, Jeff Rapps has some wild ones in now with similar marking.

Apparently I remembered wrong the JDs Rapps has are cb, but the markings do sound simular.

      Wow...
      The video is impressive...
      These sailfin mollys are huge!
I will look for them when I buy another or two females.
What do you mean by "the markings sound similar"?
The dots on his cheek are very sharp and there is not a single one on the lower gill. Is it that?

What I meant was that what he looks like and what you say sound simular to the description that Rapps has for some JDs he has in stock. I miss remembered and thought they were wild when in fact they are cb.

I found a matching female for him. They are doing fine.
      But back on topic.
The little guys are growing like crazy and I am catching them to count and measure the biggest ones. Maybe I find signs for sure females and males.
I will sort out all small ones and hope there finds another pair.
I will post pics when I am done with counting and catching.

      hey, time for an update...
I have made the right decisions.
In detail this means the young pair is about to breed. They have chosen a hole in a big piece of wood, where they sit in and flirt. How can a fish of that size already lay eggs?!
      I am impressed...
The babys of my female are fighting for the best territories and impressing each other.
I have taken a few pics of the new pair.
      Here we go.
What makes me wonder is the size of the eyes in comparison to the rest of the head.
Is that normal at that size? Have they grown too slow/fast? Are they inbred?
Also the headshape of the female is very acara- like, don´t you think so?
But they are juvies so this will change with their growth I hope.
Their colours are stunning, the fins are looking great and I still don´t know if these are wildcaught ones or not. The behaviour is way more intense than for captivity bred ones I think. But the colour... I don´t know.

When the lights are gone and the jungle comes alive...
Nothing more to say. Definitely a wild caught pair. Not a single capitivitybred pair was able to spawn that much after only one day of knowing each other.
      Unique shots of true beauty.
