FINALLY - photos of Flowerhorn PLATINUMS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do definitely plan to hang onto these - never seen anything like them, even on aquabid's 100 pages of FH's lol What does yours look like now? Never seen a barred one before myself.

Pardon my ignorance since I've never gotten into FHs. I thought the whole purpose of selectively breeding the FH hybrids was to promote the intense reds and pearling (among other non-color traits). Wouldn't a platinum variant be defeating this purpose?

Good question - I have been eyeing the FH's for some time, being a Cichlid guy myself, but in fact wasn't interested in getting something that looked LIKE a TriMac. But I did want something big, personable, and interesting, so I started looking for something different - Boy did I ever! I don't know what FH's are "bred for" other than the huge KOK's. I think that the flowers/pearling is another of the desired traits, too.

When I saw mine, a translucent white with no underlying, or overlapping pattern other than the blotches of color, I knew right away that I had something very unusual and wanted to see what they turn out like.
I think that by now, a FH is a FH, and what it looks like is personal taste... If you ask me, I don't see all that many RED FH's. Most of them (to me) look like trimacs, pretty much.

but yeah u shud definitely hold on to that so u can BASH me in the future for saying that iant a flowerhorn!;)

mine got very very light in color, all red in the chest, red in the fins, and greenish blueish metalic all over. the red is getting more intense and spreading all over the body. looks pretty sweet but no crazy forehead since its female.

Once again... they are FH's - half jingkang, half something else - Kamfa if I remember correctly.

Ethnics - got a pic when it looked barred? And it sounds like she's turning out pretty darn sweet indeed How big?

Just thought I,d put these up.White RD's or Midas is not a new thing. It's very common. The fish you have with black on it IMO is RD.If you didn't see the parents breed or get photo evidence you can never be sure until there much older.notice the shape of the white juvie RD in my pics.

Thanks for the great pics of the Midas / Red Devils.

I, however, know what these are. They are Jing Kang X some other FH.

They also came from Thailand as well. I have had plenty of Red Devils / Midas in the past, and these are quite distinct.

Not to mention the fact that they had pearls when small.... :D This is the "after" picture after they "stripped" or whatever they call it, losing their body pearling, and now they are going through the second stage of color changing.

:grinno: it doesnt look like a FH to me...:grinno:

Let's get some FH experts on here and get their opinion.

I know that their parentage is JingKang X another FH, and I know that they were pearled when smaller.

In addition, I'd like to say that many pictures of FH's look like Trimacs, and many larger FH's in fact look like Midas, especially in shape, also... I don't think we can go by shape, then.
