:headbang2I freakin love this site! I have got great info and this thread was something I had never thought of. I do not have rays yet, but I plan on it. This seems like a great solution to feeding all kinds of fish!

He is telling you in the start of this threat what geletin to be used? Atleast i did read it.

:screwy: i read that. Does that make gelatin safe? I was just wondering if anybody KNOWS it is safe to feed to rays. I know it is obviously safe for humans, but so is french fries (well kinda) but would not feed that to my rays :naughty:

I would like to try this with my little captive bred retic and try and get her off of black worms but not at the chance that the geletin really isn't all that great for her to consume.

my rays wouldnt eat it :(

im going to try a batch w out pellets since they dont like them. maybe i can mix in a few at a time after that...

Your rays are fat and spoiled ;)

Aint that the truth! They eat better than I do and I weigh a good 320lbs!:ROFL:

Gelatin is a protein known more commonly as collagen. It is the result of processed connective tissues from cows and pigs. This protein contains 20 different and beneficial Amino Acids. Alanine, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Glutamic Acid, Glycine, Histidine, Proline, Hydroxyproline, Hydroxylysine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Serine, Threonine, Tryptophan, Tyrosine, Valine.

If you check this link:

https://www.mazuri.com/PDF/5C8X.pdf

You can see the nutritional analysis of the Mazuri Gel Diet that I use for my rays. Much of the same beneficials are in gelatin that are in Mazuri. The one caution here is to slowly back off on the amount of gelatin needed to produce a batch. My colleague in the Aquaculture industry warns of fatty liver and kidney ailments if too much protein is given too often for too long a duration. Comparatively what we are giving our rays should not result in these
ailments.

All in all it is important to vary our rays diets as much as possible. This is more practical to do over the course of a year rather then with each individual feeding. Try it, report your experiences, share your thoughts.

Respectfully,
FireMedic.

That was exactly what I needed to know! Thanks so much firemedic. I am leaving on a 17 day vacation in december and wanted to find something easy that the house sitter could feed to my rays. Come December I should have another litter of pups and don't want anything negative to happen.
