even amount would still cause havac... still cause problems.. one pairs up, they beat on the others, the none paired firemouth, one is going to become over dominate to the other none paired firemouth..... i have one firemouth ( with my africans atm ) and i would not dare to get anymore....

yes, i started with convict and they started breeding young at like and inch and a half. but if you get 4 you should at least get one pair then the other two will end up being more like dithers.

I want a breeding pair of firemouths. so That is why i'm looking to grab a couple of them and hope they pair up. Have never bred fish before and I feel like this would be a good place to start.

ah ok, well to start out with a breeding pair, i would get 3 or 4, let them pair up, then remove the rest.. and as for school species, i would look into bauno aire tetras ( big group of these would look nice, 12 for the group ) then 8 to 10 corys ( bigger bodied corys. like your common albino corys )

a responsible fish keep dosent mix fish from 2 different continents, thats why i'm converting to african, south and central americans need differnt water parameters than africans.

firemouths wont pair up tell about 3 inches, they arent like convicts, i even had cons breeding at an inch.. but firemouth and convicts breeding size is way different.

as i stated... its not staying there, for one, i know that, these guys have been under the same tap water for months. grew up in the same ph... same kh/gh.... so i know what i am doing, and actually he will be going into a 20 tall by himself...

oh ok, im just saying africans are fin nippers on bigger fish as well, when i first started in the hobby i had a 20 gallon a baby oscar and like 5 africans on auratus(got eaten) and two electric yellos and two cobalt blues,( reminder i was 12 at the time) and after about a month together my oscar must have been sick of all the nipping and pestering and ate 30$ worth of fish thats why i would never mix malawis, or any africans with americans.

Yeah that is exactly what I planned on doing. Would mixing different types of tetras be a bad idea?
