FMJ's are anot a problem, my dad's AR15 and winchester shoot FMJ's

i really like the K98

any tips on where to start looking for one of these?

i'd rather go through a gun dealer, or gun specific store, as i dont know what im doing and don't want to get bumfudged by poorly done paperwork with 'some guy'

Century International Arms is an importer of surplus arms from around the world. Go to a local gun dealer and ask if they can order from them. They will only ship to an FFL (federal firearms license) which your dealer will have.

There's no perfect rifle, each one has upsides and downsides depending upon what you want to use it for.

Think of it this way, there are many sized nails and many sized hammers. You wouldn't want to pound in a tack with a sledgehammer and you don't want to attempt to put in a railroad spike with a tack-hammer. But there are a lot of medium sized hammers that will pound a lot of different sized nails in between.

I can smell that bull hockey from all the way over here. 1,000 yard kill shots....:ROFL::ROFL:

A .308 is a superb round for big Illinois deer as well as range use!
say what you want. One was just under 1000 yards. They shot many between 5 and 700.

ya, cuz big illinois deer are bigger than elk
why shoot something you don't need? You certainly don't need a .308 for deer and the .264 sure doesn't kick anything like a .308. It's like everyone out here says you need at least a .300 mag for elk :screwy: My friend killed an elk w/ a .30-.30

LoL either you mean 1000 ft or you were grossly miss told. Heck, Id like for you to show me a place in Penn where there is even room for a 1,000 yard shot!

Let me guess, he killed an elk with that 30-30 from 500yards too didnt he?

.308 ammo is more common and less expensive than .264 any place, any time.

Dead nuts out to 300 yards.
I have shot it 107 times. 18 of those shots were at deer. All 18 dead.
