i know....

it's like garbage floating around a space... a wing nut going 25,000 MPH will pass right through you without slowing down.. but it's still just a wing nut... ya feel me?

in either case we already have a .22 so im not getting another one, lol

like jd said bullets aren't designed to just go through a body. with the .22-250 you can get a ballistic round, which are extremely brutal at 4000fps.

im done talking about the .22

for either the M44 or the Mosin Nagant what rounds do they shoot? my dad says surplus guns are a two sided coin, they are either cheap and plenty, or rare collector's items.. im assuming you guys know enough that im not looking for a 'show' gun.. right? ;)

it seems like im going with on of those two (any tips on WHERE to get it?) unless i can find a cheap enough savage .308.. i just figured out my taxes... :swear: i may not have money just yet

M44 is a Mosin Nagant. It is the short version of the Mosin Nagant 1891/30.

They both shoot.
7.62 x 54r

It's a rimmed cartridge. Cheap to shoot, but usually only in FMJ (full metal jacket). You better check your local laws concerning FMJ, I'm not sure what chicago will allow.

Any of the WWII surplus bolt action rifles like the german K98's, Ruskie M44s and 91/30s, Swiss K31s (my favorite but not as cheap to shoot as the others), Yugo M48s Yugo M24/47s, etc etc are all cheap to buy and cheap to shoot according to their condition and rather or not they have been re-arsenaled, GI bring backs, etc. Yes the rare collectors such as a pristine GI bring back will cost some big $$ but you will know based on price. For the money you are looking at spending you are not getting anything uber rare but still you ARE GETTING a piece of world history and that alone is worth "collecting" IMO but the beauty is, they are still be made to shoot the ish out of! FYI all the guns I listed can be had for under $250 for a non-collector (aka one that you wont feel bad for shooting) grade weapon. You really cant go wrong I am telling you!

FMJ's are anot a problem, my dad's AR15 and winchester shoot FMJ's

i really like the K98

any tips on where to start looking for one of these?

i'd rather go through a gun dealer, or gun specific store, as i dont know what im doing and don't want to get bumfudged by poorly done paperwork with 'some guy'

great thread guys!!!!!!!!!!! its good to know theres others on here with RIFLES "guns" are for thugs:naughty: i have a few different calibres for different jobs.........after all the wrong round is like playing tennis with a cricket bat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

get a 50 caliber! lol I have a .177 (yes a pellet) and it could take down a deer if I wanted it to. it's an air rifle, but it has some kick. I only use cans or any recycleable, but soda cans are too thin... I used one once and it looked like I hit it with a shotgun...

but anyways my grandfather uses a 22 for red squarrels he hates the damn things lol

if you want a range gun, how 'bout s 12 gauge? no joke...

Deer with a pellet toy? Riight.

The word "gun" is not for thugs, use it all you want.

Hehe if all goes well I should be bringing home two more additions to my AK collection this weekend! :grinno:
