Well I should clarify that $35 was the price from the distributor. To get it at that price you would have to be a dealer or have a C&R license. But even after mark up it'd still be crazy cheap. And no they're not junk there's just tons of em out there and there definitely no frills.

durable?

I am in the process of getting my FOID, it should all work out and i'll have it in a little while...

Looking for ideas of my first gun.. looking at something around a 30-30 caliber, preferably bolt action..

Im not familar with makes or models, but have been told to look into Savage and Marlin..

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated

u should get a double barreled shotgun:grinno:

Go pick up a Mosin Nagant 91/30 while they're still relatively inexpensive. I bought one a little over a year ago for $99 bucks. I'm not sure what they're really going for now. It's a nice bolt action rife that you can shoot and hunt with. And the ammo isn't that expensive...yet. I'd recommend picking up a Shotgun New while your researching. You can find all kinds of good deals on Nagants and other rifles.

hey im just saying i've fired a 10 .22

i've hit paper footballs harder than that (it's a small fast round, that's the problem, it's also the reason for taking down roos ;))

what does that mean? lol. Trust me any day I'd rather shoot the roo with a .270. but the .22 is like 100 times cheaper.

and about the .22. I give up. Go read up on the .22-250. that's a .22 that travels at 4000 feet per second, with alot of force.

i know....

it's like garbage floating around a space... a wing nut going 25,000 MPH will pass right through you without slowing down.. but it's still just a wing nut... ya feel me?

in either case we already have a .22 so im not getting another one, lol

Yes and no. Bullets arent designed just to "pass through" rather they are designed to release the most amount of energy possible into the target. They do not just put a "X" caliber sized hole in one side and out the other. They fragment, tumble, and mushroom to cause max damage.

Id rather be on the business end of a .22lr then a 5.56 even though both bullets are roughly the same diameter.

Like I said before go with an old surplus bolt gun like a Yugo M48 or M24/47, or a Russian M91/30 or M44/M38. They are CHEAP, very well made, CHEAP to shoot, FUN to shoot, and the 8mm and 7.62x54r rounds are very powerful and all the guns, especially the little M44/M38 carbine will let you know who is boss! ;)
