Not too many people have access to a range that has a 500 yard line, and if your are hunting and you cannot get closer than 500 yards, you need to work on your hunting skills.

In essence 500 yard targets are not really a concern for the normal shooter, especialy one that is new to shooting

I had a 110FP in a 300 Win mag, that was a scary gun.

Find somethng you can be accurate out to about 100 yards, that is all you will ever need......

You are right and hence why I said its a good gun in case he did DECIDE to get more into the sport as its perfect for begginers as well as intermediate shooters.

Apparently the .22 that my dad has is a ruger 10-22... If that's what a plinking gun is.... Is a pellet gun

Don't get me wrong I'm not asking for a .50 but I want something that I'll remember I shot a minute later

The .223 sounds good from is said of it. As does the .308

Semi auto is fine here, hence why we have an AR-15...

I'm definitely going to go shop to shop for advise though

But what does center fire mean?

mmk then.... you believe a .22 is a pellet gun. Just know that My 'pellet gun' Has taken out kangaroos two times bigger then you. but you live in your fantasy world.

and center fire question...

there are two 'fires' there are rim fire... and center fire.

rim fire is when the hammer hits the bullet anywhere but the center, and center fire is when the hammer hits the center of the bullet.

yeah man finding it in stock will be tough. the place i went to didnt have any, but their supplier did so i was in luck - it arrived in a few days. Ruger also has several models in left hand bolt, but i like the price of the Savage better :)

hey im just saying i've fired a 10 .22

i've hit paper footballs harder than that (it's a small fast round, that's the problem, it's also the reason for taking down roos ;))

more people die in the US from 22 rounds than any other round

and more people die from bee stings.. im not concerned with killing things (yet) i know (more or less) what im looking for in a gun, i just need to know what gun that is lol

Savage=$$$$$$$ usually. You could go get an M44 for dirt cheap. It's bolt action and shoots 7.62x54mm which is comparable to .303 and usually cheap as well. I have one I got for $140 and it's a Russian but I've seen Chinese models going for $35.
