youre going to have to get your head around getting gun advice from a 14yo but i shoot ALOT. if its a good cal you want for a illinois deer or even elk for that matter, i would go for a .270 long. if its just deer and you want a common cartridge for your first rifle a .243 is good and a 22-250 is great all around for deer and range.

I'd pass on the SR9. You can get a lightly used Glock 19 for that price. A MUCH better gun.

i've fired a glock (dad owns one) and i really don't like it...

i basically have my grandmother's hands (haha i know right :( ) so the only real way i can get a sure grip on it is to place my thumb directly behind the slide and... yeah i like having two thumbs

would you recomend it if i can find it cheaper?

What drew you to the SR9 though?

it kinda looks like the pistol from the Halo video games :D

i also got to check it out at the store, it's pretty light (yes i know it was empty) fits my hand nicely, has some easy to see safety features and, well, yeah, i like it aesthetically

if you dont like the glocks, which i dont either, take a look at the springfield XDs. great guns

For home security, nothing gets the would-be intruder's attention better than the sound of the pump action of a shotgun...trust me. I think there's a class on how to wet yourself instantaneously when you here that sound...just thinking out loud. The savage or the winchester are great. good luck...just remember...any permit or registration you have to have or do with a gun is like giving the authorities a g.p.s. to your whereabouts.
