First Polypterus: need advice!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
magpie magpie is right im one of the person like to overstock, my polys a between 4”-6” still juvies, i will be moving them to a 100g once the are adult size, i dont really recommend over stocking even i do it, if you can keep up with the WC and you think your fish are healthy then go for it, its your tank your rules.

I do WC every 2-3 days 50%-60% and once 70% on the weekend, i also feed every other day and check my water once a week.

magpie magpie my nitrates stay between 10ppm-20ppm, i keep the water clean and check it once a week, if ever something is wrong with the water my roseline shark will be the first to react to it since they are sensitive to water perimiters.

Haha, and I got so excited thinking I could get 10 polys at least! I'll aim for three, four if I can't help myself, and see how they do. Thank you both.

that is why you need a bigger tank, so you can get more =)

Yeah I'm one of those who overstocks too although since I pulled the 12 plecos out it has been MUCH better

I would if I could! Unfortunately I have no space for one. Even the 4' long will be a challenge. I'll have to put it in front of my window but I keep the window partly open even in winter. So I'll either have to insulate it to prevent temperature fluctuations or incorporate it into a table so its below the window and not directly in the path of the cold air. But then my polys won't be at viewing level. =(

well in that case I guess you have to move so you can get a bigger tank lol

You can still get a 4’ long tank, you can do a 4’x2’x2’ 120g

Lots of water changes for Polyaddict to keep nitrates low - I am too lazy to do 3 water changes a week hence our different stocking level preferences. ;)

You know, he's right with this one.... So many more options in a 2 foot deep 4 foot tank! :D Mwahahaha

It easy for me to do WC now, i still use the same jabeo dct 12000 pump to pump the water out, only takes about 3-5 min to do 50%, then i learned to store a water in a 40g drum container next to my tank so i also use the pump to get the water from the drum to my tank.
The water in the drum is already heated and already decholronized. All in all just takes me about 15-20 mins.
