Aheeack!

Hi all,

Hope all is well with you all.

I reinstalled the repaired ATI unit to use two again, and only 6 of 8 tubes work...sigh..

Anyhoo, here is an obligatory slideshow of pics using the twin fixtures again and at 90%. I since lowered to 65% max for all tubes as the PAR meter was showing upwards of 175 micromoles at the substrate! That is very high light indeed....Now more around 105-110.

Here is a short video at water change time. Some nice quick schooling behaviour at the 2:15 mark or so..

Take care.

very nice setup, i wish my plants would grow like that :/

I would be happy to hear about your setup and help if I can.....a lot of it is c02 and fertilization. plants want to grow, we just dont always give them what they need or enough of it at times...

Thanks for the compliments...

Hi,

I could provide much better advice knowing the following information:

1. Tanks size in volume and dimensions.
2. Filtration and any extra flow like powerheads.
3. Type of substrate used.
4. Type of lights and how far from the surface are they. How often are they on?
5. How much and what type of liquid c02 you use.
6. How much and how often do you dose flourish. Is that all you dose?

Anthing else you can think of. Since an aquarium is a controlled environment unlike nature, we need to ensure we provide all that a plant needs. Light, c02, and nutrients are at the top of the list.

Please note that liquid ferts tend to be highly diluted with water and thus are less effective than you may want. You may need to dose more but we will see.

Liquid c02 needs to be added before the lights come on as it does not stick around 4ever....

Without this information I am just guessing...

Its a standard 55 gallon
theresabout 2 inches between an 18 inch t5 bulb and a marineland led
I dose the api liquid co2 (1 10 mls capful) as directed on the box right before I go to school at about 6 and the lights come on at 8 and turn off at 8 I dose the flourish on Wednesday and Sunday I do three capfuls (aprox. 15 mls) I cant remember the substrate name but I know its for plants.
Does this help?

Hi and sorry for the delay...

1. Why not try 8-9 hours total for the lights? 12 is a lot.
2. The flourish will not supply all the nutrient the plants would like or will need :) Plus, these type of commercial ferts tend to be diluted and you need to use more than normal and costs more too. Please check out the use of dry ferts and the EI method over at the Barr report.
3. Are there reflectors on the T5? HO or NO bulbs?
4. See if you can get the substrate name.
5. You may want to try a non c02 tank using less light. A good fish population will supply a good amt of ferts and you can add a bit every now and then. Semi regular water chanes and top offs.
6. Can you post a pic?
