First ray tank.

I've seen retics over 20" diameter. Most don't live long enough. Is yours a male? Males don't usually get as large and females don't reach their true size until they have bred several times. I have rays over 12 years old and they still are growing.
Mine is a female approx 4 years old with a 12 inch disc.
She eats like a pig on most foods I offer but won't take pellets.
She has been no trouble at all really and Co exists well with her tank mates.

So with hystrux being smaller what is the overall opinion on getting a false hystrix and having it get huge?

Im in the research phase still but I'm in a similar width dilemma as the OP (but 3' instead of 2').

How often do people buy a ray marketed as reticulated or hystrix, hoping for a ray that stays below 20" for life, and ends up with a different species that gets much bigger?
