My floor is concrete, didn't really need too. But, I dont think 140 lbs per sqare foot is a lot of weight myself. That being said, if you can get under the house to re-enforce the floor, it's probobly a good idea. Pretty cheap insurance considering the cost of repair if you are wrong.

i agree. i was planning on connecting the floor joysts about 4 feet out from the load bearing wall no matter what but i was just going to see if anyone thought i should run support beams going to the floor also.. but i think it would be uncalled for.. however if i have the extra 4x4 i still may do it

so that still doesnt give me a definate yes it will hold or no it wont hold.. but was some helpful info... ill just build it up since i have easy access to it anyways and if nothing else it will make the floor solid so the tank doesnt shake when my wild child jumps off the couch next to it haha
First off, great build. I was wondering if it is possible to do a similar build with two sides glass. I want to build an in-wall tank that you can see through as a room divider. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 galllons. Not sure if the pressure would be too much. Also very interested to see if anyone has tried the black jack yet, as cost savings on a large project like this would definitely help.
As soon as I have the time I will try the Black Jack product I might just go grab a rubbermaid and coat the inside to see if its fish safe because I know it will hold water. I'm calling the company today to see what think about being fish safe.
this tank could have easily taken the pressure of 500 gallons because its under 26inch tall. when we filled it up none of the wood even budged. i thought it would atleast bow a little. the top piece of wood i put on last to keep the front and back wall from bowing wasn't even needed in my opinion because there is no pressure on that top piece i can wiggle those boards up and down very loosly. but its still better to have them there to be safe than sorry.
Well the Black Jack products won't stand up to hydrostatic pressure so they are out of the question. I can't wait to see your tank stocked up bro. Let me know when you are ready to move it in the house so I can come help.

I would worry more about the affects over time that the tank might have on the floor. I am sure it will hold when you first set it up, what I would worry about is the floor sagging down an inch or more over the next 2 years becuase of the weight.
