Fish eating plants?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Me too! :hitting:

I've had a couple never messed with my plants, didn't know that. Are we talking about the synos that are labeled as squeakers?

Yes that's what was stated on a site on Google. I personally never heard of the Synodontis squeaker species eating plants before reading the article. Plant material could also mean leaves falling onto the substrate and degrading and the Catfish ate it lol.

Well that settles it then. I'm not terrible at keeping aquatic plants! It's my synodontis flavitaeniatus that is going to other tanks for a midnight salad bar!

Then what’s eating my Anubis, the Delhezi Bichir, Congo Tetras, or Cory Catfish?
Congos. Tetras like to chew on plants. I doubt a Cory can actually get good damage and I don’t think bichirs like their veggies.
What do the bite marks look like? That would be the best way to determine.

A number of synos love plants, feather fins included. (Probably not enough to swap tanks to eat them). But in this case if I were the op I would rule them out, as they would have eaten what look like shoots of vallis or similar rather than swords.
As for the swords. They really need a clay type pre substrate to do well, and if they are grown or of water, which most are, then you can expect to lose some of the stronger looking outer leaves whilst the roots take hold. Swords take most of their nutrients through the root system so you want good strong roots and fertiliser in the substrate.

I believe you are all quite mistaken.
Circle of life: When a fish dies, it releases nitrogenous wastes, which plants consume.
Therefore plants eat fish, not the other way around. Plants are the most voracious predator known in the hobby!

lol ?

On a more serious, not so serious note, for those people that think coral are plants (they are animals), this is the closest you have:

Aquatic Venus flytraps or pitcher plants would be awesome though. Maybe we can hybridize a charican with a flytrap and get this fun flower:

I think I’ll stick with my non-carnivorous anubias though...
