What's a fish you guys think everybody should keep at some point in their life? I'm going to say some sort of puffer fish, bumblebee gobies, kuhli and dojo loaches, axolotls, and multies.

I’ll stay simple and say betta.
Small enough that anyone could easily keep one. Not in a cup or bowl, but a proper aquarium.
They are everything someone new to fish could want. Easy to care for, hardy, gorgeous, graceful, and a wonderful personality to keep you entertained.

Axolotl are not fish lol.
As I've had many fish dumped on me by irresponsible owners over the yrs, I can't think of a single species that EVERYONE should keep... Some people shouldn't keep any lol.
But a comon goldfish is a good fish to learn on in IMHO. It is inexpensive to purchase but has enough that can go wrong with it to really make a beginer hone their keeping skills.
I must say tho that all the yrs I passed up keeping Oscars was goof on my part. As much as I love my usual favorites, nothing has compared to keeping these jerks lol.

LOL ive always found Oscars to be more like a pet dog than aquarium fish
Maybe that's why I like them so much. I am a dog person. I love to watch Toni pick a fight with my boston terrier when I'm trying to feed her and he starts begging for fish food lol
