Fish Food Discussion Thread

Hey everyone. For quite a while I have thought that we desperately needed a thread that focused on nothing but food for our fish. An open discussion thread for anyone and everyone with a question, advice, or experience with certain brands of food, complaints about certain types of food etc... Keep everything in one place... Here it is.





I'll start off with a question:


Has anyone used HBH's Color Bright Natural Flake? I have some now, and I want to know what other people's results are.

i think HBH is a good brand i use their flake frenzy super soft pellets and shrimp pellets i don't like frozen blood worms from indonesia cuz the smell like crap
i also feed new life spectrum grow pellets to my discus the discus like em grow real fast have nice colours

Yeah whi do fish love horrible smelling food?I am cursed now..Everything smells like bloodworms ='[[I feed my fish algae wafers,flake.bloodworm cry,Daphnia and discus food LOL I don't even own a discus LOL

The HBH I have came free with an order, so I can't complain about it either way.

NLS is usually a surefire brand... I don't think I've heard anything negative about it except for the price.

HBH is a good brand. i feed em to my angels, etc. as for bloodworms: just hate, especially the smell and if i handle the frozen ones to long ill get a rash so yea lol. other than that i feed my fish cichlid gold, frozen shrimp from my local asian market and earthworms.


btw what is the wierdest thing you guys have ever fed your fish

I really don't feed weird things... The wierdest thing would have to be a piece of yam.

Tried Ocean Free. I wondered why my fish ignored it. I don't normally smell foods but when I gave it a whiff, I screwed my face and threw it to the bin.

Sera-Okay.
Omega-Okay.
NLS-Okay.
Tetra-No. Not every fish liked it.

I feed my fish anything I can find from earthworms, bloodworms to veggies. I can't remember anything else I tried yet.lol

My snails get veggies, reptile foods and calcium tablets to ensure healthy shell growth. Will try rehydrated seaweeds for them.

do you guys prefer the hikari food sticks,hikari sinking carnivore,or hikari cichlid bio gold more?
this pertains particularly to cichla.
just wanna know.
ive tried the bio gold and sinking.
i mix them together when i feed.
i cant tell which my bass like more cause theyll eat both just as tenaciously.
which is better for color as well?

I like flake smell.
I almost got high off it once...
Personally, I feed Omega mysis shrimp, flake, bloodworms, and ground shrimp to my spoiled zebra danios in my 55 gallon

I like the Hikari brand stuff. But I have used lots of different kinds everything from kikari to ken's fish to NLS. and alot in between. But I do have to say I love hikari for my smaller fish and Ken's for the larger fish You just can't beat 15#s of 9.5mm pellets shipped for under $60. and my bigger cats love them.
