Sculpins usually won't chase fish down, but instead wait for the fish to be in striking distance. In addition to frozen bloodworms moving in water, they won't turn down live blackworms.

It depends on how long you have them I guess.

Mine ambushed at first. Then after awhile he realized that when there's a large school of feeders he can just swim into the school really fast and grab some.
After awhile he realized that the other fish were eating carnivore pellets and this took absolutely no skill to catch. At first they had to be blowing accross the bottom for him to go after them, but after awhile he'd just scoot along the bottom picking them up,lol.

When we first got him though he was kinda hard to feed (with all the other fish in there to get the feeders first), so we'd put him in a bucket with some little fish and cover it so it was dark and he'd go to town.
Later on when he was more used to us I'd put a net over him and stick a guppy in there one by one so they couldn't escape and he'd eat them.

If the sculpin is in a small tank by himself it shouldn't be hard to get him to eat at all. Try turning the lights in the tank off and covering it so it's pretty dark. Sculpin can hunt really well in the dark, and the convict fry probably can't see that great, so he should be able to ambush them fairly well.

thx ShadowBass

Yes he has a 10 gal to himself.
looks like he is doing well.
the little herd of fry wondering around tank.
it is cold water and all I have is tropical/warm water.
don't know what to do.
cool looking fish but space here a problem.
I usually use the tank for fry.
I removed the heater for the sculpin.

I would love to give away ???

not sure if eating yet thou

Cool.
I guess he was just stressed because he was handled a lot before you put him in the tank. Figured he would come around.:)

If he doesn't have one you may want to give him a little cave-like structure to go in. A half a clay pot will do, but they like to go inside something for awhile sometimes.

thanks
I will work on that cave for it.
in fry tank right now.
Really don't know what to do with it.
can't put any other fish in that tank cause it is to cold.
It gets the whole tank to himself.
I feel bad now for allowing my son to keep it.
poor thing is all alone.

Anyone want it ?
I have heated tanks/tropical fish it lives in cold really oxygenated flowing water. I have 3 stones blowing in tank.
I have been able to feed and has been captive since 8-1 should be stable.

If you want to get him out of the fry tank you could temporarily put him in a rubbermaid tub with some cycled media and some air stones.

I would take him but you live too far away.
