Fish keeping, is it in the genes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use a laser pointer on my cichlids. They go nuts. Bring one into petsmart and hit the African tank

Fish are so fun to watch. This is a video of her parrot cichlids fighting over worms. Shes 12 and does a great job caring for them.

Nice to be able to share fish with people who enjoy them as much as I do. :D

For us married folk, it gives us something to stay occupied while being on lock down! LOL! Just joking but on a serious note I believe fish keeping is just like baseball card collecting simply a hobby and for some of us a passion.

I grew up having a large tank with an oscar and JD's and other fish. So it just seems normal to me to have a tank. But I am much more "obsessed" then my parents ever were with their tank, I do a lot more research about the fish I am wanting. But what keeps me with the larger fish is their personalities. You can have the prettiest guppy or whatever other fish but they just don't have the same personality as my Africans and S. Americans. Even my african lace catfish has a crazy personality. I feel people end up thinking I am crazy because I will talk about my fish like they are my cat or dog. I do have my cats and dog and I love them more than anything, but it's safe to say I have become just as attached to my fish.

+1 for the god complex!
About genes , I noticed that many of friend's (fish fanatics) kids are not so much into aquariums.
Observed the same with my lil kid, he got bored of my planted setup & tetras quickly. So got him a few large goldfish. Lets see how long they hold his attention.
Oscars are next on the list.

For me somehow a brand new empty tank is the most beautiful thing in the world, it represents the unlimited "potential" for world creation.
Still have my first tank (12") without anything in it. :)

I like to learn about different species, breeding, behaviors and the satisfaction of raising fry into beautiful adult specimens. I also enjoy staring at my tanks after a long day to relax so I can go fill ppl with bullets on mw3. One of my favorite parts is the reaction ppl get when they see my display tank in my home theater. My couch faces my tank not my tv!
