Half in ground, half above with seating around the top.

Bakki waterfall filter at one end or side.

Tile sides and bottom with a mosaic MFK in the center (if you do this I could put you up for a life time membership in the Monster Aquaria Network.)

Keep us updated,

Dr Joe it have been 2 years since your suggestion for the Bakki Filter.
Well it is now time for a re-think of the filters and would be pleased to say that the pond would be getting a retro fit with the bakki system.

However this would be a DIY Bakki System not the Mantaro Steel Box 3/4 tiers system. Have put this off till now as getting the Bacteria House Filter Media is rather an expensive affair in my area. Recently my local fish shop was able to get an alternative media and with that in mind would be going ahead to plan and fit this into the current pond.

If that works fine the old filter system would be removed in stages.

Will keep updates soon.

Cheers. and thanks Dr. Joe for the suggestion

The DIY Bakki Shower type of filter that would be replacing the current submerged fiber mats would be made from locally available 1" pvc piping. The media would be the ceramic Bacteria material from China not the japanese ones.

Here are some pics of the items that would go into the build.

A new additional pump would also be added with a flow rate of 12,000 litres for the shower effect.

BTW thanks for all your feedback and positive feedbacks.

Having an afternoon free brought some 1.5" long pvc pipping and set up the new pump to test the water flow. Hope that the water delivery is enough for the pond. Currently using MFK conversion with the following dimensions 24' by 6' by 2' water depth giving appox 8,155 liters / 2,150gallons. The pump capacity is 12,000 gallons at 5' height.

This simple setup actually took me 2 days to complete.

The rest of the filter trays and build would take probably longer as will have to sit down to design them with the proper heights and sizes for each layer. So do wait a while i put a bit of cpu power to work.

The pics show the long piping from the pump to the shower head. View is from outside the old filter section. The final photo show the 3" pvc piping shower with 8mm holes done. over the actual pond. The crates are used to get an idea of the height for the trays. Looks like can only accomodate 3 layers at the moment.

This would be left running over the next few days to verify the water levels from the main pond and the outside filter section.

If you look closely at the outside piping section there is a retro fitted long 3" piping below for the water coming back from the main pond to the old filter mats. This would be use to create a little waterfall for the outside section. The idea is to provide more aeration. There is a little loss of water height. will provide some photos of this later when the entire system is completed.

Till the next few days cheers. and happy reading

Here's a simple diagram of what would be planned for the Bakki System.

Three Layers of Ceramic Bacteria House with the shower head about 36" above the water line.

The main structure to hold up the media would be made from 1" pvc pipes.

Starting the build up for the Shower Trays
Lots of measurement and cutting to be done.

The piping were then joined joined together without any pvc glue.
The initial base for the shower tray shown here.
Lots of Joins. Since the local hardware supplier did not have the cross junction.
I had to made do with a lot of T-Joints at alternate spacing along the shower base.

10 T-Joins at the Base alone and a similar number for each layer of media.
Three layers and so a further 30 or so to go.

Another day, more cutting and joining.
The basic frame more or less up.

Another afternoon was spend to make the media support for the plastic trays
this was done using 1/2 inch pvc pipes as shown in the pictures. This will
sit on the 1" base shower frame. The plastic trays will be on top of this as shown.
