Fish room/Business progression thread

Well Darn. Any pics? Customers don't want to be told about fish, they want to see them. Work on building you a pic portfolio. I would breed convicts for feeders, You gotta have a staple crop. There is always a market for clean feeders. And because you can gaurantee that fish are helathy You can charge premium price. common plecos for profit is kinda iffy Unless you can incorporate some type of service in with them. They are considered nuisance fish in many countries including many states in the U.S. So unless it's some type of fancy Plec. dont waste your space/
 
I'll get some pictures of my own when I have some free time. I have got NO interest at all except for a trade which I will do for my Guppy fry. I'm asking $2 a guppy and they are Juvi's and will be shipping February. If anybody wants any P.M. me.

As of Convicts I might do a 20gal when I set up the fish room. I was thinking BristleNose Pleco which I've seen sell out fairly quickly.
 
good job man... i think it is a cool idea and great experience for the future... who knows you might open a fish store one day....

also, if you have the right water and a little start up cash... I have been amazed at the price some of these shrimp are selling for... they are easier to breed and ship than fish too... might be something to think about down the road.... either way goodluck man...
 
Thanks, Yeah some of these shrimp prices are pretty insane, I've seen a Blue King Kong Shrimp sell for $100 a piece and heard of some CRS going for thousands..... I kind of have two businesses right now starting up, one is this fish one and the other is a coin one.

Well anyway, Selling these guys is harder than I thought :nilly: I have somebody interested in just buying all the Juvi's I have(12-15) I told him $20 plus shipping. So hopefully I'll sell those and than in February when I have 50-75 ready I'll start selling quickly, I just need a little bit of feedback and Reputation. I do have 150 stars on ebay ;) 100% positive feedback, thats no joke.

Well, If anybody has ANY interest at all in ordering some of these guppies in advance let me know as I need to order some shipping supplies.
 
Just noticed some baby snails on the tank sides!!! Female guppy looks like she's gonna give birth tonight. I might hold off on selling until I have my fish room set up with all the stock and a few tanks ready. I think I am going to just sell all the fry and juvi's I have when I set up the fish room in order to get some funding to get some tanks and stock. Having a hard time selling these guys though
 
If your fire red shrimp do well, you should consider trying to breed high grade crystal reds... But first get used to the slightly easier fire reds and move up from there in maybe a years time... Coz i was talking to my lfs tge other day and he said a clients tank which is 3ft wide went from having 20 Crystal reds to 3000+ in 2 years... So if you can get 4 high grade ones to start with and keep breeding till u breed a decent size quality you could make some decent cash

Don't expect for them to sale like hot cakes. How many outlets are you utizing to try to reach potential buyers? This is where you need to apply your ingenuity to your business. Almost everyone gets to a point of stalemate when doing something like this.

keep working on your photos untill you have something almost commercial grade

hope you are not relying solely on aquabid, there are a few other sites that you can conduct business on.

MFK probably isn't the best site for your current stock. So try cruising other forums and posting in the different classified/marketplaces of those.

Be flexible, be willing to trade for other fish species and or equipment. Bartering is a great way to "freely" promote what you are doing, People who acquire livestock from you will eventually show them off to others (free advertisement) plus that will help build your reputation as a prompt, and alive on arrival shipper.

Don't get discouraged, just keep doing the next best thing to grow your operation. And that doesn't necessarily entail spending. You will eventually have to find the right balance of input/output...
