Fish Tank Turning to Fish Cemetary! Help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Take the plant out and trash it. You cannot bleach plants in a strong bleach solution. That plant will not come back. Without leaves, it has no ability to photosynthesize. Plants, especially heavy root feeders like echinodorus (what you have) and anubias, cannot be left in rockwool and baskets.

pour prime in it

the owner at an lfs i go to had the same problem he just about the fourth of a bottle of prime in his tank and in a few minutes teh fish were fine if u have prime i recommend u do the same

Ya I was kinda wondering why you used bleach in the first place.......it's a heavy detergent containing acids that kill on contact.
Not a detergent, and it does not kill on contact. The main thing with bleach is it kills flesh and suffocates the fish, also burns them and leaves them there for secondary infections.

Bleach is a wonderful thing and a powerful cleaning product. I use it extensively for filter media, old tanks, fake decor, rocks I have collected, and anything else that is going into my tank. As long as it is rinsed well you have no problems. You do not need to dry it out, unless you are worried. After it is dried then all that is left is pure salt, which is what bleach ends up as when dried.

You must be careful with porous materials (driftwood+bleach makes me cautious) because they can absorb bleach and release it later.

I have even used it in tank. Moved all the fish to a separate container, along with all my sponge filters (I used to have 2 in the sump and 12 running in the pond, for occasions like this) and ran about 12 cups of bleach in my tank. No more snails! I hate malaysian trumpet snails, btw.

Bleach is not a detergent it is also not a acid its a base. It is used to disinfect but if you ammonia is at 0 thats really odd. Because bleach has ammonia in it.

Plants don't like bright colored substrate, they will die. :nilly:
