Fish tanks are hard work

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my problem with pumps is the suction, they pull the gravel right down the tube. when I vacuum I sink the tube right into the gravel, then let sift/fall back out. I do this all so to get the gravel back evened out, esp in the jag tank. males a mean gravel digger.

Amen to that

I use a 25' hose on a pump for emptying and just fill back up with a python. 1 hour for 6 tanks isn't too shabby.

I have the same. I bought a 20 gallon Rubbermaid tote as a temp tank a while back. So now I start filling that and three 5 gal buckets I have with the python as the pump is draining the tank. Once the tank is drained, I put the pump in the Rubbermaid tote and pump into the tank along with the python filling into the tank. Cut my wc time down considerably since my faucet is kinda slow.

I just put the pump in the tank and stir the sand with my hand.

Well she didn't die over night so I'm keeping my hopes high.

Still can't believe she got sick.

Pops, just curious what type of water heater you have to handle ~90% WCs on your tanks at once.

I know my 40g natural gas unit begs for mercy when I do the 75-90% WCs on my 75 and 55 at the same time in the winter, when the tap water is so cold.

Out of my 120, 110, 90, 55, and 20 gallon tanks, the 55 is the only one running. I only have 1 fish in there and do a 50 % water change weekly. I use a 5 gallon bucket for water transportation which takes about a 30 mins. It's a tedious process, but I enjoy the routine.
My 120 was obviously about double the time.
I still enjoyed the work.

Eh water change mine with a siphon to a floor drain Will be adding a 20 gallon with an over flow bulk head over the drain to protect my drain from sand.. (will be gross to clean but cheaper then a plumber) and then I have a "y" connector on the hot and cold hook ups for my washing machine so I can adjust temp. Thinking about getting some pvc and makeing a valved filling apparatus like I have seen some of the others have here thant aims the water at the surface.

Glad your cory is still kicking man good luck.
