Corys often die because people fail to realize they enjoy cooler water, and people acclimate them to warm tanks.. They also do not take kindly to un-mixed salt.. Also wild ones don't like hard waters, I found out the hard way.. (200 corys later)..

Yeah, some can be pretty sensitive. The pandas are really sensitive so I have heard but i really like them so I keep on trying. I don't use a heater with them though....I know better, and I don't use salt. My water is a little on the hard side though.

i havent had any difficulties with any of the fish ive tried keeping, ever... maybe cuz i've only kept the generic stuff, but more likely because i am just awesome.

For some reason, being a puffer specialist, I never have any luck with Dwarf puffers. PetSmart always gets FAT ones in, and I get excited and buy them all up.. Of course I set a new tank up for them and they are doing great for a few days.. But unfortunetly these mini-monsters have a special required diet that I usually do not have enough time to fulfill, nor do I have enough time to change the water in their tank.. I finally taught myself to quit buying them, no matter the temptation, because I do not have enough time on my hands to properly care for them as well as the fish down at the shop..

What kind of diet are they supposed to get?

Mine is the Asian Arowana. Luckily, I've only tried on three of them. My first one was an RTG, with all the openings covered except a very tiny space that is usually closed. I mean it was about 1 cm wide. So I thought I learned, but really hurt alot, especially my pocket book when this RTG jumped out. So after the healing time which is about 10 months, I bought another asian, this time it was green, less costly, but still not cheap. Died the next day, and the seller did not want to back up the guarantee. Almost killed that fish store. Little asian guy. Third, a Malaysian gold which is a glorified name for a green aro. I bought it larger this time, so that it would not croak the next day. This one live for about a year, but developed a crooked back. It swims with it's head down all the time, and could not swim straight. Cause of that condition? Water quality. Sold it and made extra cash for it. I am always tempted to get another one but scared that I am jinxed in keeping them, so I just look at pictures for now....

Howdy,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't puffers loners?

festae... for some ungodly reason something always happens to them
stingrays eats em or sucked in powerhead or jumps out of tank...always something :screwy:

LOL!! I had all those things happen to my festae too!! LoL! May they rest in peace! I have to say the hardest fish I have tried to keep would be arowanas cuz they just keep jumpin out.....bugga annoying. There are a lotta cichlids out there though that i am nervous about...like some of the Satanoperca...like daemon and stuff......Reticulatus lapidifer....lol....and discus. Geez they are touchy! Although discus don't really seem that bad. As far as aggression goes....pike cichlids have been a challenge for me....lol....it can be a struggle pickin tank mates and stuff...cuz they do get large and can be rather aggressive...specially towards other pikes. But i manage...and still love them! Can be frustratin at times...lol...had to get rid of many fish before cuz my pikes didn't like them.... :swear:.....Clown Loaches are a bit of a trouble as well........and Black Ghost Knives....but only cuz they both get ich and die so easy cuz you can't really treat them....sigh.....

They'll only take frozen foods, sometimes only live, and they can be very particular. Some will only take brine shrimp, others only bloodworms, etc. You just have to use supplements with them for good health. Plus I found they did better being fed at least twice a day.

Dwarf freshwater puffers are easily sexed and do well in small haremic groups. I wouldn't keep more than one male for every ten gallons, with maybe 3-4 females per male.
