Another question...

If hit in the proper place, how long does the bow take to take out the bear?

Depends but a good shot in the vitals lungs, heart area etc and he will go down within a few yards most of the time. I am from Lond Island NY so we are only allowed to bowhunt cause to many homes no rifle unless you go upstate NY. I also prefer bow hunting more of a challenge to me. With rifle anyone can shoot an animal from a few hundred yards away with ease. With a bow you have to be close say no more 40 yards some can shoot alot further not me and when you get that close there are alot of factors that could ruin your hunt.

Any pics of your past kills?

Sure I will take some photo of my wall mounts and try scan some pictures I have of kills. I have not hunted to much in the last few years as this stingray business leaves little time for it but in the past I have hunted all over North America and Canada.

awesome! pretty sure its a bear. as for hunting and killing a bear, sorry, i have no ideas!

I doubt a hunter shot and left it. Depending on where you are, you have to pay some good money for a bear tag (baisically a "permit" to shoot x number of bears a year) so I doubt he would leave it. Its possible he had a bad shot and the bear ran really far and he never tracked it.

I bet the bear drowned, was hit by car and latter succumbed to his injuries, ect.

As for hunting. A black bear isnt that much bigger then a large man. Saying that, I wouldnt use a .270 just in case. Id like something that is going to knock a good sized hole.

Bows and crossbows are absolutely devastating with modern broad heads. They are only limited to a short range. I was with a buddy when he dropped a monster 140lb doe with a crossbow and the damage the bolt caused was unreal. It was a perfect sholder shot blowing out the heart and lungs. The bolt passed all the way through and hit the ground about 20yards on the other side of the deer.

Bears are anazing to me. One was recently shot and killed (nuisance) about 25mi from where I hunt in Northern Alabama and it had been tagged just six months earlier in south Florida!!

any caliber is capable of killing a bear. In idaho the record black bear was illegally killed with a .22 magnum. (it is illegal to hunt any big game animal with a rimfire rifle)
I boughat a bear tag this year for $11.50 but i didn't get one.
BTW i hunt bear with a 45-70. :) :)
