You do know that bowfin are native to new jersey while Largemouth bass were introduced into most of the state. If we take you idiotic analogy into real life we should kill dumb people so that the smart people can get bigger

thanks for ur opinion "bunny" and what u said may be true but wat I stated is what I have noticed. I never calmed to know it all, just saying what I seen happen to MY lakes I fish.

So anyone want to have a first fish of the year contest?

I'm willing to but only if it's for northern states and for catching the first LMB.

:ROFL::ROFL:I guess youve never caught a bass over 4 pounds or are you one of thos weirdos that uses 80 pound braid and skim every fish across the surface :screwy:. Fishing is no fun with out letting the fish run and fight ;).

lol I have caught some huge PB way over 4 lbs and posted some in MFK just this summer but all yr long I catch them .

"you one of thos weirdos that uses 80 pound braid and skim every fish across the surface"

No make that 80 lb flourocarbon line ;).

"Fishing is no fun with out letting the fish run and fight"

I use barbless hooks and will NEVER use barbs thus letting them run and fight isnt the best idea. Cichlids is what I like the most as still have other types to catch which elude me .

I havent done much saltwater fishing other than off pier but my father in law goes out for grouper (eats them) . He loves it.

Never heard of kingfish.

Since the 08 season I make it a challange to catch my first bass in February. In 08 my first bass was 4.1 caught on a husky jerk bait and this season(first post) was a 3.13 landed on a black and blue jig with matching pork. I have a early season spot that is great soon as the ice has melted!!!

I just assumed in NJ for most part Feb still mostly frozen waters.

What # test are you using?

I had 15 lb on one reeal and 20 on the other but changing them this week to braided 100 lb test. Lol kidding .

20 lb braided is going to be what I change one to and the other 40 lb because going to try to catch good size catfish this weekend.

Why use barbless when you can just use light wire, Its not good to drag a fish in.

Some cichlids hit that hook hard and swallow it (Oscars and Jags mostly) So over a yr ago went with barbless and now just use overly size hooks they still hit it but now can't swallow it.

"Its not good to drag a fish in"

In a canal with dead trees inside rock caves etc to let the fish "run" equals tangled line.
Some canals are huge and deep thus no worry about tangled if you have a boat as you avoid the shores but since I dont have a boat and fish on shore its best fish doesnt run.

Snook which are found in the bigger/deeper canals and lots of them even near shore . I dont go after as to big and in my case imagine would get away.

If you cant catch a oscar with 10 pound braid then you need more practice. As far as the fish taking in the hook I would use a light wire circle hook with the barb. As far as the dead trees theres dead trees everywhere you just have to learn to fish around them.
