FISHING SEASON 09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you get them in Myakka State Park by any chance? They don't taste muddy at all and I was able to pull out 17 (around 1 foot) in an hour with an 8 foot net.

I used to throw tilapia in a 55 gallon for a few days and just eat one when I got hungry. I'm considering doing the same thing with lobster, but maybe a thicker tank.

YEah I fish Myakka sometimes I find most Tilapia dont tast muddy until they get over 2.5 pounds. Found a great development that had a nice running canal in it but the fish all tasted like mud.

I had no idea catfish would hit anything but chicken gizzard, non moving bait type things. I have caught catfish here but using earthworms and chicken parts.

I am heading there again this Sat but will take 2 rods as will fish the PB also will try soft plastic worms for the cats..

Thanks
Just make sure your drag is low and you have high abrasion resistance line or you will lose them every time.

Mabad for late reply on the topic but I have also caught channel catfish on lures. Mostly in the fall feed tho. Shot for that matter in 07 I had a snapping turtle bang on a spinner bait, also in the fall. I thought I hadthe biggest bass in my life but after like 5 minutes I could clearly see it was snapper. I cut the line right off!!

theres a local guy down at the river that catchs flatheads on lures. He goes through a hole system every yr using live bait at times and then swimbaits and other lures other times. My buddy caught a flathead on a glow in the dark inline spinner this fall.

I never use the drag. I have all my reels on off,etc as hate that drag. I just reel in non stop once they hit.

I had a line snapped by what was either a 3 ft bowfin or snake head because had no drag but that was freak thing due to fish size and girth.

I have never caught anything bigger than big peacockbass thus never needed drag and since I prefer barbless hooks prefer to just reel them in.

Do you need drag if the line is rated for bigger than the fish?

It's frezzing here and you guys are talking about fishing. I can't wait till Feburary gets here!!!

I miss the northen NY but the snow and cold I have always hated . Its strange to see Christmas lights on palm trees and its 85 degrees at Christmas.

I would think not till late March could you fish again. NJ winters are like the arctic tundra lol .

Ive heard trout bite through the winter in rivers, is that true? Cause I might decide to do some fishing this week end, just a 10 minute walk to the Rio Grande. :nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly::nilly: I may live in NM but it gets a lot colder than you might think.

ah winter trout my fav. time of the year. I would say they bite better in winter then any other time of year. But I would think Michigan trout are a lot bigger then your trout ;)
