Just, idk what y'all are doing but May is one of three best months to catch monster bass but I will say you have to be out there at the right times of the day. Anyway good luck on ur future trips !!
You're right. I was fishing the wrong part of the lake. I've hooked up with some nice ones, but they've gotten away. I was origionally fishing the wooded sides, but I tried the dam and they're all nesting along side it. I saw some nice 3 pounders, but they were too elusive for me.
Anyways, I'm heading up to Vermont for the long weekend, staying up at a place called Smuggler's Notch. I've never been there, but there is supposively a 6-acre reservoir there. Anyone been there? If so, any tips?
Arrived Florida 5.24.2011, spent most of Tuesday with the family, but went out in the evening to went a new spinnerbait, caught a few Bass but noting worth talking about here. 5.25.2011, got up at 5:30am to meet up with Jersey JAck @ 6:30am and stand fishing at the back gate lake in my folks developement. The day started off totally F'd up as Jersey JAck had forgotten the Kayak Paddles and we found our selves in about 4 inches of water and 24 inches of plants and the prop just trapped in muck. I had to use my med/heavy action Ugly as a push pole to free us from the muck.
Once out on the main lake the action was at a medium pace with mainly small to meduim size Bass coming in. Note a few very few pics of the Bass for this days fishing, really not much too talk about size wise. Number wise we hit 35 Bass in total for the morning between us, nothing hitting the 4 pounders club at all. As for the afternoon I was hit by at least 2 Bass in the 8lbs+ range but wasn't able to make the hook up and couldn't figure out what was going on.
Fishing a topwater lure my favorite a SPRO Popper Frog, I just couldn't seem to set the hit at the right moment. After loosing what look to be a 10 pounder I noticed that one of the hooks points of the doulbe hooks on a Spro Frog was stuck in the body of the Frog ever so slightly @$%$&* I was pissed. But after that I kept checking the frog every cast.
Anyway we ended up closing the day with a total of 47 Bass between us both, fishing 2 lakes for a total of 8 hours of fishing. Biggest Bass was approx 4lbs+.
5.26 We kayaked upstream on the creek that runs past the front of my development through several other private developments until we came to the dam and then we kayaked back. A total of about 3hrs round trip, we caught 11 Bass the largest two pictured. It's not easy to set a hook when fishing a frog while sitting 4" off the water and keeping one eye on fishing and the other scanning for snakes and gators.
Sunday we hope to go down stream, were I have hooked up with some truely nice Snook, Sheephead and Bass and I've heard people talk of Tarpon too 4' in the area at times. But also I know that Fish and Game sets up gator traps in this lower stream area every year .
Then after lunch we headed to a spot that JAck knows called broken ankle
lake or No pattern lake. There we fished the heavy padded lake up front and worked our way to the back section where JErsey JAck proceeded to land the first lunker of the day at 5lbs but I then answered with a five and a half pounder which looks smaller in this pic but when weighed was heavier.
5.27 Today we headed out to another development that has one main lake with a few smaller off shoots from the main lake. We've fished here before, but we only do this lake one to two times while I'm down because its really difficult and sometimes dangerous to get the boat in and out of this lake.
JErsey JAck not only caught the most fish while we were at this lake he also made some kids day by giving him a brand new lure that this kid didn't have and it turned around the kids fishing day, he went from complaining to catching. Total fish caught for the day at one development was 23 and you can see who got the lunker this day. JerseyJAck lunker 6.5lbs, while in the water it looked like it was at least 8 pounder and what a fight it put up.
Tequila, those are some awesome fish! I wish we had bass like that around here but short growing seasons coupled with too many people that feel the need to keep everything they catch makes it tough.
Still up after a 4.5 hour night fishing trip on my boat at Assunpink that produced 11 for me and 5 for my boy Dennis. Biggest was my a 4.3 !!! At the moment we're at quick check then we're off to Farrington lake. All nighter baby !!!!
went last night and fished till 12am. storms were rolling in and out but the fish were biting. we caught 10+ in the 3-5lb range. big three were 5lb 14oz, 6lb 7oz, and a 7lber i caught fishing a crappie tube on an ultralight rod, he sure was a fighter.
