After being ran off by rain as soon as I set up the last two days I finally got a couple of hours to fish before the rain moved in this AM.
The Gulf is still flat calm and gin clear. Beautiful water for offshore fishing but not ideal for surf fishing. I still managed two keeper pomps and a hoss of a whiting.

caught 2 channels last night, nothing to brag about. The river temperature is flucuating like 6-7 degrees every 12 hours because of the nightly lows and its got the fish turned off i think
Yeah I noticed the same thing. When it was pretty much cold all day every day the bass would be eatting ealry morning then shutting down as the day went on but know with it heating up in the day and getting pretty cold at night they havent been getting active until around 3, with only a 2-3 hour window when they are actively eatting......
Its like they go through shock adjustment every day which can cause for a lot of died casting........
10 day forecast isnt calling for higher night time temps until next saturday. Id really like the water to get around 65 but its only 54 right now, so we've got a ways to go before hitting the warmwater discharge.
Yeah by the end of the day the water temp has been hitting the 60 mark but down it goes over night to low-mid 50's.....
Waittng on the air temp to be in the high fourtys on a Friday cause it will mark my first night fishing adventure. This year im trying to catch spawning period at night, can u say monster heaven !!!!!!
Good luck with that, 40 degrees is a bit cool for me lol. Once the sun sets we've got about an hour before my ass gets cold and is ready to call it quits. I probably wont even think about night fishing until late May, this will be right before the channel cat spawn and the flatheads should be pretty active by then too. Time will tell, heres hoping for 80 degree days soon.
