Nice Gar Spadoc!

Blue and Channel catfish are just ugly ducks,but man those Flatheads are looking awesome and grow to a decent size to.
It would be nice If someone decided to relocate some to dutch waters.

And that gar was a longnose gar, not needle nose. Please don't insult that fish like that haha
 
NC, heres a male channel with a block head I caught last fall at 7lbs. Same color and head shape that youre describing.

gotcha, yeah that looks about right just couldnt figure out why their heads were so freakin big haha
 
I did a report of them for a research writing class last semester. They use their big heads to help dig out a nest and bully the female once they have paired up. Males also usually have big thick dark colored lips, especially during the spawn

As far as keeping flatheads there a few guys on some of the catfish forums that keep them. They claim they are pretty unactive, feed for a few minutes, and then go back to being unactive. I had 2x 8-9" babies last year i tried to pass out but noone was really interested, would of kept them myself if i had a larger tank.
 
dreamsofpeace, I see you're from MD. Ever fish Loch Raven? I'm headed up there for the first time this weekend, I'm sure it's busy but it looks promising.
 
two options this weekend, go home to charlotte, hit up bass pro, pick up the rod i need for saltwater and get my fishing licenses renewed (run out the 23rd) and fish a bit there, or stay up here and just be lazy and catfish. hmmmmm. tricky tricky, the $80 or so in gas is the negative of going to charlotte. hmmmm.
 
the bass should be embarrassed after what I did to them today! I slammed about 15 bass in 30 min today. Some I sight casted and caught, some the good old fashioned way bumping the bottom. Using a 7" YUM twister tail worm. Biggest was probably only 2 pounds but really fun. Going for some carp and channel cats tomorrow, then to the river saturday night to see what I can stir up. Wife is being induced Monday so time is short!

NC, the gas alone would talk me out of it.

Smaller bass have the most spunk, the bigger ones I've caught seem to be lazy.
