FISHING SEASON 2K12!!!!!!

Went after some carp and channels for a couple hours today, relatively slow. I got 3 carp, biggest at 5.2 lbs and a couple channels that weren't worth weighing (probably only a couple pounds). This lake has a ton of fish, but haven't found any really nice ones yet, but I am sure they're in there. I haven't got the boat out there and its the very shallow end where I fish so I am sure there are better spots for big fish. On another note, I did net 8 really nice gizzard shad that are hanging out in my bait tank for the night awaiting a date with the river tomorrow.

jpwolf, use sweetcorn for carp and cut fish for catfish. Theres a lot more to it but if you just want to try those species out, then give those baits a go!

Justin, I'll look forward to seeing your reports!

do i have to put a sinker on the corn or do i just let it float?

carolina rig the corn with a very small hook. It will help to throw some corn in the area that your bait is too. For that application, I use a pack bait around my sinker, but for just experimenting throw a handful in and cast your line on top of that.

Decent day today, 6 cats landed with biggest being a 6lber - kept the 6lber a 4 and a 2 to eat.

Once again almost lost a rod at this place. The point I fish has trees all around so i have to walk 3-4 yards away to cast where i really want to and then walk the rod back and set it down. I had avoided this for the first couple hours because i didnt wanna be that far away from my pole. After an hour and a half dry spell i walked over to cast, let her rip, looked down, and saw my other rod fly towards the water. tossed my other rod to the side and grabbed it, only reason i got it is because it hit a bush on its way to the water, set the hook, and nothing. sucker got away clean. i guess that's just catfishing for ya! never know when its coming!

Just let us know how you do. If you like it then I'd be happy to share more in depth rigs.

Nice work NC! Should make a fine meal.

Nice Cats,NCstate!
I'f you are afraid you lose you will lose your rod you can always consider buying a spinning reel with a baitrunner.
Works fine for me.
