Gonna thank versus TV and Kevin VanDam for my success today, was sittin around at about 1:00 today and his show came on talking about fishing windy days in tournaments and what the best things are to do, it was fairly windy today but i almost didn't go. After talking to a guy friday who showed me pictures of a 6, a pair of 7, and a 9lb bass he caught out of the lake i do my catfishing at, i decided to take what i learned from KVD and head out to the lake for a scouting trip. Really glad that I did. Burned spinnerbaits right under the surface and first cast, BAM as i got it to the shore i saw the fish come up and slam it, sadly first respectable spinnerbait bass of the year at a little over 2lbs. Head over to the next spot after a dozen more casts (moved around frequently). next spot I missed a 4lb class fish right on the bank again, this time it was further down as I was casting parallel and all i saw was the splash and tail. I thought I had hit a rock and missed the hookset because I forgot my trailer hooks, still for a scouting trip this was great to see! The other side of this spot had a tree sticking up with a cove on the other side. I was like wow this is perfect ambush location for a good sized bass. I finagled around the tree and dropped it in, 3 cranks later BAM! another 2lber that was spunky, pulling drag and giving me a great fight. These first 2 fish and the missed fish were all in my first hour fishing. From there I kept moving and failed to get a fish the rest of the way around the lake and only managed one GREEDY little 5" the rest of my time there (approx 2 and a half hours) but it was a great trip, especially to get there at 3:30 on a bluebird windy day with tons of paddle boats and kids on kayaks being really loud.... imagine what i can do early in the morning. Gentlemen I may have finally found my new bass spot, not as good as the zebby honeyhole i can't go to anymore but I accept the challenge ;)

- walked about 4 miles for these fish so i definitely earned em! lol

MasterB - awesome blue! You're really going to have to show me some of those bank spots one day. Been wanting to target them for a while down there.

NC - glad you finally got back on some bass!

You guys get out there and catch some fish for me. Probably be a couple weeks before I sneak back to the river. Couple flatheads pulled up near where I was going to fish sat night!

Thats a nice blue catfish?
How big would that be in Inch? Like 40+?

After literally HUNDREDS of kings hitting the deck over the weekend at the pier and me being stuck at home due to a surprise visit from family, I decided to go to the pier today to see if the king massacre would continue into its third day. Nope, of course not.

I brought three rods with me, a king rod, my ling rod and a pomp rod. As I was walking on I saw a fellar with a few decent pomps so I settled in between the sandbars with the other pomp fisherman as I had heard there was no king bite at all.

The ladyfish were THICK and I promptly lost all three of my jigs in about thirty minutes which is a real PITA. I did see a total of three cobia chasing hooked up lady fish so I decided to throw a small one on my king rod. My king rod is nine ft and designed to throw just small cigar minnows plus it had a king rig on it with just a wire leader and a single size one treble, better then nothing though.

It didnt take long to realize that nothing was better and I didnt want to risk snapping my king rod throwing such a big bait and meanwhile a pomp or two came over the rail. I rushed home and grabbed my Shimano TLD and quickly tied me up a dropper rig with a single 7/0 circle hook and eight oz bank sinker. I also grabbed two set rods to fish for pomps as I was tired of losing my jigs.

I get back to the pier, luckily I only live a few miles away, and set up the bottom rig with a lady and throw out my pomp rigs. It was lady after lady after catfish after cat after lady and after cat. Junk fish city. Oh I also caught a ray. Eventually I got a nice pomp and lost another one right as I went to pull him up.

Nothing on the bottom rig and as luck would have it, never saw another cobia all day.

Sorry for the long post but hey we are suppose to give reports right?
