good fish dream those are some nice bass

Pre-fished today for a Kayak Tournament on Saturday.

There are several prize divisions including King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Red Fish, Speckled Trout, Flounder and Inshore Slam.

My plan for the tournament was to hit Gulf first thing in the AM and troll some ballyhoo and a Yozuri crystal minnow for kings and spanish and then drag my yak across the island to hit the sound where I do pretty good with the reds and specks.

The forecast is looking pretty rough to get out in the Gulf so now Im thinking Im going to go to one spot and get me a big speck and then drive about fifteen miles to Pensacola Pass and drift for big reds and a flounder to enter a slam. Im not sure what Im going to do yet though.

Anyhow, I only fished a couple of hours today and really put it on the specks. Most were just slot size but a couple over. Unfortunately no gators like Im going to need for the tournament. All fish were caught in about five feet of water on shrimp under a popping cork around sand patched in the grass flats.

nice man hope u can get ya a 2'+ gator for the tourney!

JD7, that is one cool looking fishing hole.

Thanks, it is a beautiful place. Im very fortunate to have met a wonderful girl that let me move us down here a few years ago leaving behind family and friends.

nice man hope u can get ya a 2'+ gator for the tourney!

Ive pulled some nice ones out of here. I got a couple in the 22'' range today. No reds or flounder though. Since specks are generally the smaller fish in the inshore slam Im going to spend only a couple of hours chasing them and once I get that twenty five incher Im heading for the pass to get the flounder and red fish. There are over a hundred and fifty anglers in this tournament so I dont have high hopes. But if I can weigh in a slam which is tough right now because most flounder are just now entering the pass and the specks are way up the bays meaning that for the best chance to get a slam one would have to fish two different areas and most anglers arent doing that, I may have a good shot at placing.

that'd be awesome. my goal this fall is to get on a 20"+ speck, fished for em my first time this past october and caught a pair of 18" the first time along with 12 spikes and the next time i landed 26 spikes with no keepers haha. they're still bein caught way up in the creeks but i have no way to get to em.

really hope u do well bud i think you're right that fishing 2 spots can get you placed, even if ur trout is only 20-22" if you can manage to hook up on a 20"+ flounder this time of year that may well be the kicker that puts you over the edge! that being said i saw a gigging report a few days ago up here where a guy got a 30" 10.5lber O_O
