nice!! I've been thinking about getting one but I'm worried I'll spend more time undoing birdnests than fishing.....let us know how it works out for ya....whats the make and model?
I'm just getting into nice baitcasters. Grew up undoing birdsnests from cheap quantum baitcasters. Finally splurged on nice 80 dollar BPS extremes. They're very smooth and I've tuned it to avoid backlashes. Casts all the lures I've used, just as far as my spinning reels.
BPS has a new super casting model or something that's on sale this week. It's supposed to be an anti-backlash baitcaster. Great for beginners I was told but anyone who has the hang of baitcasting won't need it.
Anyhow, here's my newest rig (with my $30 pink camo stix from Cabelas). View attachment 779744
I have one of those. It's very good for the price.
Backlashes are VERY easy to avoid once you get used to a baitcaster. What I do is, and you NEED to do this every time you change lures for the weights are different.Tighten that cast control knob forward (silver dial on the right), now bring your lure right to the top eye on the pole. Now, click the QuickFireII clutch to let the line out. Now, creep that cast control knob back slowly until your bait/lure drops. Now tighten it a tiny bit forward so as to apply slight braking to that set lure weight once the cast is done. The two VBS brake setting that it comes with does not need to be touched. It is only to control lashes on the BEGINNING of the cast.
Went to bowfishing yesterday, got a 8lbs carp. This afternoon I went fishing for sunnies with a bud. A horse decided to be my fishing buddy for whole afternoon, caught lot of big sunfish and take them home.
