thanks guys! went back to the spot today in hopes of more bowfin and maybe a flathead since once in a while people catch em there. Ended up getting 4 more bowfin biggest at 5.02lbs and losing 6 or 7 more. lost two trying to let a kid that was bream fishing reel em in and lost 2 4# or so to the thrashing at the shore. I'm fairly sure I had and lot a flathead. Different take on the bait and the fish stayed as close to the bottom as possible, i finally got the fish up out of the rocks it made a sharp run and the hook pulled. such is life!
Trying using "squirmin' squirts" crappie tubes from bass pro for those bowfin. we had some pretty good success catching them down at reelfoot lake in Tennessee a few years ago. small jigheads too. we did lose a bunch to bent hooks and such though.
Its been WINDY WINDY WINDY here the last month so very little fishing.

i'd guess you caught the pickerel when he was in some heavy vegetation or he was just really stressed?
JD i've been dying to get to the coast here but its been really windy here too.. been missing your reports!
- i'm gonna be fishing that spot pretty hard until i catch a flathead. in the past it's produced several 35-40# class fish and several 10lbers or so. They come in and leave when it rains and the water level varies so its just a matter of right place right now. i'm fairly sure I had a 10lb+ flatty hooked and lost yesterday but i'll never know. fight was way different than the bowfin or a channel cat. hugged bottom really tight as long as it could, when i finally horsed it out of it's corner the hook pulled.

Just got back, really chilly lol only stayed about n hour but caught nothin.
