Does that mean when we are researching for car models we are studying autothyology? Ichthyology is nothing but ID fishes.

You've really got to be kidding. At least before your argument made a little bit of sense. If you honestly believe that Ichthyology is nothing but IDing fish, then there's nothing I can say that's going to make you get the picture. I guess that we've learned about fish morphology, classification, evolution, and behavior from people who study dogs. And just because we are researching cars, which is most definitely scientific, there doesn't have to be a name for it. We are all scientists, everyone uses science daily. Science is observing things and creating theories in order to better understand those things. Science and art may be separate from each other, but they are both vital to each other.

well to me i vote art. i do bc for me its being artistic and science is my tools. with the more science i have to work with the more artistic i can be in the hobby. thats just me tho

Fish IDing is Ichthyological taxonomy.

Ichthyology is the science of fishes. I got into the science very early. My 1st fish experience was a Gallo wine bottle containing a mudnose dace and a tadpole. The metamorphosis of the tadpole intrigued me so much that my parents got me an age-appropriate book that explains the process. That same summer, my grandfather and I found several egg containing nests on the beach. We took a couple of hundred eggs home and placed them in a 10 gal aquarium. I got to watch the embryos develop into spider crab shapes in the eggs and hatch out into perfect miniature replicas of adult spider crabs. From that moment, I became hooked on the science. And, I've been hooked for the past 46 years. From studying the science, I was early in using alot of innovative theories in my hobby such as biological filtration in W/D homemade filters at least a decade before they started being manufactured for mass distribution. Even my 1st protein skimmer was homemade based on theories written up by Spotte, Bardach, and others.
As to cars, yes I think the car you buy should be researched first. However, if car maintenance is your passion, it would behoove you to learn as much as possible the inner working of said auto. Since car maintenance is not my passion, I choose to only learn enough about it to be able to pilot a vehicle and conduct minor maintenance on it.

+1

both FTW. one FTL.

If I can't pick both Art and Science, I guess it means Bacon.

This hobby is both. To keep and understand the fish is scientific. To make your fish and tank look good is an art.
