Fishkeeping hobbyist stereotypes you encounter when people learn of your hobby?

Hi everyone,
I believe having a hobby is critical in providing enthusiasm and positive spirit to your life whether fish keeping or stamp collecting. Remember not all people are going to be happy with your hobby. The only person who can be happy is yourself, your partner who loves you the way you are which includes the hobby.

I say it real eye opener of the various people occupation and life styles. I think it is terrific we have wide range of people from various background and cultural keeping fish. They can provide wonderful ideas and different perspectives to the aquarium hobby that I can not image.

I absolutely agree, and if anyone does weird stuff in the reflections of their tanks, whether it be dancing, playing air guitar or pumping and flexing their muscles and admiring themselves, please keep it private otherwise it reflects poorly on all of us.

Lets raise the bar of expectation for fish hobbyists, let us be known for our creating aquatic environments and raising beautiful relaxing pets.

Like I said in the last post I dont stare at my reflection in my fish tank that sounds so stupid if u think about it and I'm not a vain person or egotistical I know what I look like and I dont need to keep looking and my hole point in my post was just to point out I'm the exact opposite of a nerd but I love fish and keep many tanks.

You can be jacked and a nerd lol. I'm just giving you a hard time, seems we struck a nerve though haha.

It takes a certain kind of person to dedicate the meticulous time and effort to keep fragile creatures alive and thriving. Same can be said for growing certain plants. When that kind of effort and detail, albeit it passion, it's hard not to be nerdy about it. Let's face it, it consumes you and your time to a certain degree. I just think we are confusing cause and effect in this argument, i think the fish keeping changes you to an extent when you talk about your hobby to people, but i think it attracts people from all walks of life. I don't even talk about my tanks to new people anymore, I found it gets old, if people care they'll ask questions, usually people just take a picture and I crack a beer for them and on to everyday life.

I agree Dave I love fish more then anything except my family and god. I have been keeping fish for about ten years now and I dont think its nerdy, I guess to some degree it is but when people see my 10ft long 450g gal tank with gater gar aros clown knife arapiama RTC shovel nose cat there are in awwwww and think its so amazing and when I have party's like super bowl excetera they seem more interested in my tank and not the 60 inch flat screen.

If I was 6'5" and 230 lbs with 4% body fat I'd be flexing in every reflection I saw, are you sure about those numbers, it must be hard stay so jacked and at 4% bodyfat year round.
